As in title...
I want to format the MS-DUO using the S700i.
Can it be done?
Couldn't find anything about it.
If not, it's a major flaw. [addsig]

Tried to do this myself a few days ago. You cant format using the s700. It automaticaly does put files on the card. I decided to format the card using my pc but then it wouldn't work in the s700. I was then stuck until i got my p900 out and managed to format it again using the p900.

You mean pictures and videos.
What about games, applications, etc...

So imagine someone has an S700i only and a brand new out-of-the-box MS DUO. And he can't format it!!!!!
How stupid is that? Is that much trouble making a phone format is own cards?

I hope SE solves this on the next firmware... [addsig]

I was under the impression the first time you insert the memory stick the folders are created automatically.

Indeed I just took a blank memory stick and inserted into my P910 and then removed it and checked it on my pc and the MSSEMC folder had been created wit hthe P-series beneath that and all the other folders beneath that

edit: I recall this from my P900 days too but I can't be sure the S700 would do the same though it would seem logical. Also, my Sony camera creates its folders when I take the first pic

yeah I know we're talking about S700 but knowing nothing about the S700 I was trying to provide a comparison with P90/P910 and my sony cam and how they create folders

I can certainly understand the frustration if they provide memory stick capability but no way to format it or erase the contents

I'll ask one more thing then butt out

presumably you've looked in the service menu to see if there is anything there?

I don't see what the problem is. I bought a new DUO and popped it into the phone. It created all the folders for me.

If I had a used card, surely you can just delete all the files on a pc then pop it into the phone. Or if you're a real masochist, pop it into the phone then delete all the surplus files and folders using the phone.

If you wanted to format it (why on earth???) then I guess this can be done on any PC that will format FAT (not FAT32, nor NTFS, nor anything else that'll render the card unreadable to the phone).

Yeah! Why on earth P800/P900/P910 do support format? According to you there's no need, right?

Format it using my PC? Errr... Where do I sitck the Stick? In the floppy drive? [addsig]

In a card reader! Then you can format it, but I've forgotten how to do that exactly, I think you right-click on the memory stick 'drive', and you're given the option to format it.

Like I said i don't remember exactly.

I haven't bought a PC recently, and i don't want to spend any money on a card reader.

This is like having a CD-RW and your drive not being able to erase it. [addsig]
