"My Friends" by SE - worst IMPS client ever made? |

I know how loyal we all are towards the SE brand, but let's face it: there are 3 firms making IMPS (wireless village) clients and SE is the least successful of them.
Here is why:
1) polling interval is 12 minutes - you can really call it an INSTANT messaging:)) In comparison, Nokias poll the server every 2 minutes and Motorolas do it every 30 sec.!!!
2) SE client uses plain XML which results in traffic volume 10 times!!! higher than Nokia, which uses WBXML.
3) For Nokia and Motorola you can actually choose through which APN (WAP or data) you would like the client to connect depending on relative pricing per 1Mb set by your operator....but this is not the case for SE.
4) For Nokias (at least in 6230) you can enable synchronization between the phone profile (e.g. Silent, Meeting etc.) and Presence status. This would be such a convenient feature and a natural thing to develop... but not for SE.
So guys, can you suggest any other PROs and CONs?????

Ok. Here is another one:
5) SE phones do not support "double @" in IM usernames so Yamigo had to suspend MSN support for this brand))))) |

You'll never get a second chance to change the first impression. |

My Friends is just a pointless gimmick from what i've found anyway.
I'm sure other people probably find more use out of it.

The idea of IMPS by itself is quite impressive, however it is the implementation that is important. Phone producers have develop flexible easy-to-use clients and operators have to adapt to support the service.
I am not suggesting that every operator has to license and support the IMPS service - this can be done by 3rd party SPs. But operators have to do sertain things like not rounding every GPRS session up to 5 or even 10 Kb. This rounding used by almost every operators billing system and it kills the whole idea of low-bandwith instant messaging.
For example, in Ukraine I would have to pay minimum $2 for GPRS to stay online for 24 hours. |

It has some value to people who want to chat by text messages, because it is much less expensive than sending smsīs
Plus, it can run in the background while you use the phone normally
Those are the main advantages
