The Samsung has a killer spec and I don't even like Samsung. As for the camera, the S700 isn't that hot anyway, its not gonna replace the digi cam. As long as the Samsung cam is better than a standard VGA cam phone its all good.

i thought i would clear up for a few people that the D500 has syncML. which means that u can beam pics/music/videos using IrDA or BT.
It is a great phone and will be relased in the UK this month, i will hopefully be purchasing one. if this phone had a mmc slot - it would be the greatest phone of this generation imo

The d500 does have IR, and the bluetooth capabilities are extensive and easy to use. Also you have to be taking a lot of pictures to use up the large internal memory, and given that you can easily download these to your pc via bluetooth, then the memory available is more than adequate.
The camera in the d500 is very good indeed, the nature of whether it is cmos or ccd doesnt really come into it.
Yes it doesnt have a radio, which would be nice, but afterall a small fm pocket radio is not so expensive now is it!
The sound is superb, and the voice clarity second to none. The little speaker provided works very well (nice and loud if needs be, and very clear). The hands-free kit is good and the sound clarity through the headphones is very good indeed.
I havent used the s700, but it is going to have to be pretty spectacular to beat the elegant little d500! well done samsung a great phone indeed, very classy, high spec, and cheap to boot!!

it doesnt seem to have mp3 capability like the d500, nor does it look that nice. I suppose style is not a sony ericsson strongpoint though eh. All I will say is I have no complains with the d500.

just for reference - In Denmark where Im from - the S700 are actually now cheaper (approx 300$) than the D500 (approx 350$)

Having tried both I'd definately still say the S700 has the upper hand

Bigger screen
Radio
Theming
MP3 playback while doing other things - D500 cannot
Better camera

just to mention a few reasons

#JonnySax

the S700 has better mp3 than D500.

Look who's talking

Its quite obvious he meant that the picture quality from the S700 is better and so is mp3 playback

@realspawn - wow only $300 for the s700, thats cheap ! its unbranded ? and unlocked ?

i believe d500 is one of samsung's better phones in design and functionality but it still doesnt beat the s700

Everyone has his/her own likes and dislikes. I have to say the D500 is a good product from the samsung stable.

The D500 is a very nice phone, but to the person attempting to baffle all with terminology and ignore the actual facts of the matter, the BT is at least somewhat crippled, in that it does not support the BIP (Bluetooth Imaging Profile), and will therefore not allow printing of stored images to a BT printer. Not the biggest deal, but the lack of expansion slot for removable memory does make it rather unnecessarily complicated to actually get a physical copy of the images taken with the very nice 1.3MP camera!
