Jahan, the thing about Nokia and SE is brand image.
If you have any friends you probably have had the chance to mingle with other people and you may have noticed that almost all stupid people have nokia. Nokia probably have a 90% marketshare in the "stupid people" segment.
Check out yourself, list the 10 most stupid persons you know and you'll find that the majority of them have nokia, at least more than 40% of them.
Naturally, intelligent people who wants to differ them selfs chooses another brand, such as SE.
Same thing applies on e.g. music, stupid people tend to check out MTV in order to learn what music and artists they should like, because they can't decide for themselfs.
I call these people stupid because they are unable to have an oppinion of their own. There may be a better label for them.

If everyone was arguing like you, there wouldn't be any development at all. "How many uses Bluetooth.. 5% max.." etc. You probably said the same thing 10 years ago about mobile phones; "mobiles are just for businessmen and such professionals.. normal everyday people will never buy or have any use of them..".

From the very firts mobile phone to 1997, Ericsson was the marketshare leader then Nokia took over the position. Let me tell you, Nokia wouldn't even exist without Ericsson.

So, luckily there are pioneers and frontrunners, like most of the esato visitors, and there are companies like Ericsson and SE, who drives development of things you can't understand, today it's Bluetooth, 10 years ago it was mobile phones. Then a couple of years from now, "stupid" people can (while watching MTV) utilize the inventions that are developed today, and other companies without technology creativeness can "steal" the technology and make their own products.

But we don't mind, companies like SE will come up with some new invention (an invention you won't understand) which we pioneers can buy and use, and the procedure will go on.

Talking about stupid people...

YOU are so stupid that you don't realise that 40% YOUR stupid friedns have nokia, because nokia has almost that high market share of mobiles.

YOU seem to be even so stupid that you think SE has invented bluetooth...or any other major mobile industry invetion. Please, name even one major invention by SE.

And the stupidest of all, SE isn't pioneering anything. They even are copying their design from Nokia. ( as are most other manufacturers ).

You must have done very extensive study about correlation of stupidness, mobile phones and TV watching. I'm eagerly waiting for you to publish your results in some scientific publication...

...like that would ever happen with your IQ.

pooass, I suspected that Nokia was overrepresented amongst stupid people.
So I listed (just for fun) the 10 most stupid people I know and 8 of them had Nokia.
I asked some of my friends to do the same thing, and they all got simular result.
I find it quite interesting, that Nokia have 40% marketshare, but seems to have 80% in the "stupid people" segment.
That means that they must have much less than 40% in other comparable segments such as "intelligent people" segment.

I don't say that people who have nokia are stupid, but that stupid people have nokia. That's a big and important difference!

Ericsson is the inventor of Bluetooth and owns the trademark. This was settled before the joint venture with Sony.
Approx. 2/3 of SE employees are former Ericsson employees.
Since SE is 50% owned by Ericsson, they still are partly Ericsson emplyees. Hence the spirit of Ericsson and the heritage of its inventions are transformed into SE.

The world's first commercial mobile system network was built in Saudi Arabia by Ericsson in 1981.

If you have any knowledge of telecom companies histories and are able to compare their histories, you'll find that Ericsson has a very impressive, rich and valueable history and culture based upon technology and inventions, a pure telecom history that's more than 125 years old.

You ought to get the "The Ericsson Chronicle: 125 Years in Telecommunications", its a 479 pages book available at amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/9177364643/qid%3D1034246136/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/104-3160035-6060744#product-details

Regarding design, you're the first one the say that SE is copying Nokia design! The T300 and T100 (which are the first "real" SE phones) have a very unique design, there's been a lot of discussions regarding this new SE design here on esato, some like it some hate it, but one thing is for sure: it's definitely not a copy of any competitor's design!

Nokia is very good at commercialise what they do, but Ericsson stands for technology and invention, just face it.

Nokia helpdesk themselves!

I am so shock but at their business point of view, they have the right to do that because this type of IRDA can really make network operator happy

for we will have to use their GPRS more often.

hm...I wonder...

How many times we have to say that both, 6610 & 7210, has irDA and are capable of receiving images and ringingtones via irDA. Am I clear enough??

That's rather harsh to say but I fear you might be on to something. I'm studying at a technical college, and actually ericsson/sony ericsson is more common there than anything else.

Btw, I like your way of wording things.

Well .. how many acyually uses bluetooth?

I would bet that about 5 percent MAX!, really utilises the bluetoothfunction.

Let's stop and think shall we?

What is the reason bluetooth is not being used?
- There aren't enough devices!

Having bluetooth is like being able to speak chinese when no one else is, there's not much use for it. You can think of it as having a GSM-phone in japan. Conclusion: there needs to be more bluetooth devices in the world.

There are two choices for the handset-maker:

1) Do the right thing for the industry, i.e. make/promote new technology
2) Do the right thing for the company, i.e. maximize profits - nokia's strategy. In their case this means make new cover-designs and trim costs

If I were a business manager I'd choose 2.

But I am a consumer and I try act rationally, so I buy the phone that gives me the most utility/price. Hence, I don't use nokia.
