i'd use a Microsoft Visual Studio Tools ( v6.0 is what i have) software that includes an .avi editor... and then copy the frames to a GIF animator ( photoimpact gif animator is what i use )... and use Adobe Photoshop to resize frames if necessary. Sounds like a lot of work.

The AVI-file musn't be to big.
