When I got my first mobile, it was the Ericsson SH888. As you probably know, the SH888 supports IR. Nevertheless, it also came with a data cable in the box. It also can with the software on a CD.

In this T68, we didn't get a data cable & the software needs to be downloaded!!

Stingy bastards!!!

Most people have access to the internet, why waste money on a CD with old software when U can download for free, instead of paying Xtra for the CD.
Many people dont use cable because they have laptops with build in Ir. Many people just like gadgets and only use it as a phone. The DRS-10 or 11 does not cost that much anyway.... And why increse the prize on an already expensive phone?

Does Ericsson gain money on the T68? Because on some other phones they didnīt. And one other forum some guys said that Ericsson doesnīt gain money on the T68.

How high is the margin on the T68? And how good does it really sell in order to the other phones?

YES, and why not a car holder, a case, mp-3 player,..and so on !

Come on, you guys, get serious

How many people do you really think, uses all the stuff, that used to be in those boxes ?? Not a lot from what I know ;-D

If the phone was more expensive, someone would complain about that too...Saying "I dont wanna pay for a stupid cable!".
People/consumers are never satisfied.

Its far better to download the newest software for FREE, instead of the cd-rom.
And you really dont have much use for a modemdriver, if you dont have an internet connection, right

As JOEN is writing too, a lot of people only use the phone itself,..they dont need the computer-connection and software.
The ones that do need it, mostly have the hardware/software, of some kind already (Ir,cable, bluetooth).

And another thing : the Siemens SL45 is more expensive than most phones in DK. I guess you pay for the x-tras too.

Jan

Software often has updates or patches, why print hundreds of disks only to have to reach hundreds with an update from a support site. Why bother even making the disks for the many that don't even use them.
Why cables when Bluetooth and IR are cable-less. It all costs something and if the other vendors include it in their box than they probably need it to increase the value of their package...(or product)

Gustav,

I hardly think Ericsson are going to release a mobile phone which won't make them any profit.

Not exactly a great business plan is it?

All things sold are sold with loss until a certain number of units have been sold, due to the development cost. When tha development cost has been gained, the price of the product is reduced and this is the reason that products get cheaper with time...

The T68 is probably cheaper to produce than what it is sold for, unless they are trying to price themselves to market shares...
...which of course could be a strategy for with the T68!

By the way, pricing for market shares is the reason behind Ericsson huge losses in mobile phones during the last years. For 2001 their losses are probably about 4 billion dollars!!!
