i connect to internet via BT using a Mac G4 laptop, and i kee getting dropped about every 15 minutes or so. the message is something like 'the other side has stopped communicating...'

i don't recall seeing any setting on both P900 or on the Mac to specify the connection time limit.

this is what i have ...

P900
Mac G4 OSX 10.3.4
T-Mobile unlimited t-zones
D-Link BT adapter

anyone experiencing the same timeout issue using PC or Mac?

Hi there, SFguy

Sorry for not replying any sooner, but the new house is taking all my time!

I think I had a simillar experience last year when I first started this BT GPRS thing. Check this first:

Open Network, in Sys Prefs on your Powerbook.
PPP settings have a PPP options button. UNCHECK both the PPP echo packets and TCP header compression. Close PPP.

Next go to the Modem tab. UNCHECK the enable error correction and compression. Check your modem driver. What is it?

Come back if you still get disconnected.

@Symbiatico,

thanks for your reply. i have unchecked those items per your suggestion. my modem driver is 'Ericsson infrared'. i do not see any other driver specifically for SE P900.

i will test this out later and give you a report.

thanks again!!

@SFAguy

I just checked my connection, which I'm using right now, as the kids have taken the phone line. Mine is the "Ericsson infrared V110", but I remember having the plain "Ericsson infrared" working fine for a couple of years with my old T68i. I don't think it matters much, so keep your focus on those options I mentioned earlier and get back to us with some good news.

@Symbiatico,

Yes, i will test it out later this afternoon. If 'Ericsson Infrared' fails, then I will try the 'Ericsson Infrared V110'.

Stay tuned.

Glad I could help! What kind of connection speed are you getting? On a quiet late night, I get around 40-45kb. It's not quite so nice during the day and on congested networks, where it's anything between 25-30kb.

Go to

www.dslreports.com/mspeed

to test the connection speed on the P900 with Opera. Do more than one test at different times of the day.

I haven't tried, but it might work with a regular browser.

USing Powerbook 12"/1 GHz/Bluetooth built in

Connects GPRS using bluetooth modem but drops the line anytime.

UNCHECKED PPP echo packets, TCP compression & Error correction .

Using SONY ERICSSON GPRS CID 3 +CGQREC script
