hi i have a sony ericsson t610 and it keeps locking up on me but when i put the sim in another phone it works ok can anboddy help

What exactly do you mean by "locking up"? Do you mean the phone lock code comes up? We need more details before we can help, but we can, and we will!
If it is to be it is up to me!

the phone freezes on the menu screen and all i can do with it is take the battery out it will not even turn off

ok if you look at the front of the phone screen under the y of sony there is like a key simbal can this have any thing to do with what is up with my phone i can turn my phone on but as soon as i go to the menu screen the phone freezes up on me

The little key symbol in the status bar at the top of the display is the "keylock active" indication symbol.

Do you get any (error) messages?

Ok, lets summarize:

1) You turn on the phone.
2) You enter the PIN code.
3) You optionally enter the phone lock code.
4) You push the joystick to go to the desktop.
5) The phone is frozen, and you can't do anything else.
6) You take out the battery.

Im I right so far?

Seems to me like fw prob. Try upgrade, when freezing and no frost around.

Ok, so far so good.

Next time you try to use your phone, wait a minute before step four (4) You push the joystick to go to the desktop.), to allow the phone to load the entire firmware and to initialize itself.

You mean that if you enter the PIN code within ten seconds from turning the phone on, the phone will not be locked?

And if you wait any longer, the phone will be locked?
