You can definitely connect using wifi. I used that to test the code early on. My old flat was right by an open wireless lan. That made a nice change, its unusual for games development to be an outdoor activity!
I cannot get my PocketPC to connect through the cradle with Active Sync on, but I expect there will be a way to do that.
Cheers,
Tom
Oh, a final thought. It might be worth posting on here when you're going to attempt to play. That way I can try to make sure Im paying attention when you login.

Have installed the beta version on my P910i, and attempted to log in last night. It looks like it does work using PC's internet when you've got a bluetooth serial connection set up (I got on to the Lobby screen anyway, but there was nobody there to play against). So that's really good news, as I don't have to waste money on GPRS connection.
One little thing I noticed though; On the lobby screen, the "Lobby" title was only half visible at the top of the screen. Perhaps it was designed for the different screen dimensions on the PDA version? |

I was popping in and out last night. I saw someone had been logging in, but alas I missed it. If you let me know when you're likely to be on then I'll make sure Im around for it (or let you know if I can't).
I'm working on a new version now which will not require an account setup. That way anyone can have a go until the end of the beta.

Yeah, the main version I work on runs on my PC at 320x240 so i lose a bit of screen when i build the UIQ version. I'll tidy all that sort of stuff up before I finish.

You need some image editting software that can load and save .tga files (photoshop is good).
If you have that then drop me an email to support@smartmobilegames.com and I'll send you the map editor.

I'm taking the server down now.
I'll put it up again soon with the following additions:
You can send messages to people in the lobby screen.
You will not need a password to login (during the beta period).
There will be an automated SoldierAnts bot to play against if noone is around.

Tom

What's the use of this? When There's no-one around you can play a normal game of soldier ants and save money because you're not using GPRS.

It's good to test the game with if you want to see how well it works. It also means I can wander into town with my PocketPC and connect from an open wireless network somewhere and know there will be someone (or something!) on the other end to play against.

It works! I just had a game of Soldier Ants between England and Venezuela, which holds the record for the longest distance game of Soldier Ants.
There was a bug which prevented us from selecting the map to play on, but other than that it all worked perfectly!
So, anyone up for a game?

Everything you need to know can be found at http://www.smartmobilegames.com.
I should be launching the Soldier Ants beta server again (late) tonight and I'll leave it running for a few days unless someone finds a problem with it.

Remember I'm always here to create a few designs here and there for the game to give it a professional look.
