Okay, so the T68i upgrade is all very cool, but there are a few glaring omissions. What would we like to see in the next release? Here's my thoughts.
1. The ability to use recorded sounds as ringtones. This can't be THAT hard to implement, can it? And it would make the phone REAL fun to use.
2. The chance to turn off that bloody clock. Please. Do it.
3. Better text input. Yes it's faster, but still not up to Nokia speeds. And it's got a few glitches like not automatically selecting apostrophes when you're typing words like, well, "you're".
4. Polyphonic ringtones. Unlikely though - the memory space required to handle the PCM emulation needed for it would be massive, and until Steinberg decide to release Cubase Mobile the editing would be a nightmare. But I've heard the Samsung T100 and that, folks, is a rocking handset when it comes to sound.
5. Use Number. Look, this is standard on all the Nokias and means that when someone texts or emails you a number, you can have it stored in seconds. I still haven't figured out how to do this on the T68.
6. Java enabled browser. It's the future, there's no doubt about that and if you don't believe me then you haven't seen someone playing Prince Of Persia or Sabre Wulf on an SL45i. If memory is needed for it, then let's get rid of those bloody card games. Or all the games. Put Java versions up on the website to download if you really can't get through the day without Yukon bloody Struggle.
Any thoughts / suggestions / flames for daring to mention rival manufacturers welcome! |

for the first thing, even if SE give us the ability to use recorded voices as ringtones, the speaker is too low for this use! Have you heard a recorded voice? it's too low
java would be great but there is a virus danger
Polyphonic ringtones are funny but our imy effects rock too
All I want is a T68 classic cover but instead of the horrible flower (over the speaker) the t68i rectangle will be better

Coming from a Nokia as I did I, too, find the input of txt and the management of phone numbers frustrating. I was hoping with the 68i upgrade they would have ironed these out. As you say, it is not that difficult!
Another good feature would be to have the sending of SMSs streamlined. Why do I have to press the button FOUR times after completing my SMS and sending it?
Once for the menu, once for send, once for getting to the number screen ( which is BLANK), and then once to get to the phonebook menu, not the actual list of numbers, and then finally I am able to select the number I want! That to me is the biggest frustration with the phone.
But then again, with the rest of the phone being well built and small/light, I can live with that |

Being able to type in the number then being able to save it like that, I loved that feature when I had a Nokia.
More 2 player games and games that can be used via SMS.

Badhorsey,
On point 5 you CAN use the number in the SMS just press the options button and it allows you to use it.
Cheers

Java and polyphony wont happen as they are hardware standards specific. The phone number thing already happens i never have a problem with it. Even bookmarks in things save as bookmarks. I agree the games can GO! I want to see ' in text and but and paste which is not hard.

Java hardware specific? Of course it isn't. It's a multi-platform software environment that can be shoehorned into virtually any operating system. For example the hardware on the SL45i and SL45 (and SL42e, come to that) are virtually identical; it's the internal software that handles the Java bits and bobs.
Polyphonic ringtones has been covered before. Yes, the Sony phones have additional chips for sound processing, but what I was referring to was Pulse Code Modulation, which would allow you to squeeze polyphony out of a piezo speaker. Dig out your old ZX Spectrum and load up Zombie Zombie, Ping Pong or Vectron if you want to see what can be done.

Your right java doesn't need much hardware support, but for it to run you need the symbian OS to be installed on your phone, that needs a lot of free space and work of which they wouldn't bother buying the licen of symbian ... etc

The feature that I REALLY want, on my T68, is to be able to put street addresses on my phone book.

I dont believe SE will offer such an upgrade as they have now completed as promised the final speck for the T68! They may alter ringones and message alert and games, perhaps, but not for a while. I wouldnt put my money on any upgrades with more features or alterations. Perhaps a more stable and faster sofware upgrade is awaiting us? |

Mobile java relies on a certain level of hardware that the t68 does not have. Therefore it is hardware specific. My early wince device will not run java as it not specified to do. And as to earlier posts java has little to do with symbian. You do not have to have this to run java.

dont mean to pick a fight, or to single you out.. but some people just dont know what they have. In your hand you have a perfect ericsson T68. Wonderful colour screen, great software. Maybe not perfect, but still great.
You have one of the most feature packed phones ever created. Yet you complain. It still isnt good enough. It needs more.
now heres my proposal. You put your T68 down. Borrow a old nokia of your mate. Keep it for a week.
You'll probably survive. You can go without your colour screen, and your MMS.
now think about what will happen to you if you have to keep that nokia for longer than a week. You have to keep it two weeks. A month. 2 months. See how you survive then. you'll probably crack. Too much nokia getting into your brain. Making you common.
Its not right being forced to use nokia... you'll want your ericsson back. But when you get it back.. you still complain, It has to be better, faster, stronger. Well i got news it cant.
Your phone is perfect, and you should appreciate it the way it is.
(or if your not happy give it to me )
