this is off-topic but I just can't help but to react.

@jojo51069 re "lad"
it is NOT a contraction for the word lady. it specifically refers to boys or young men, or in general, men. (Had you written laddie instead of lady, you would have been correct. However, laddie is still a masculine pronoun. )

Even in the Philippines, we use the same meaning for lad. So it's a bit curious for you to use it to refer to ladies too.

Here's a short etymology of the word:
Quote:
lad - c.1300, ladde "foot soldier," also "young male servant" (attested as a surname from c.1100), possibly from a Scand. language (cf. Norw. -ladd, in compounds for "young man"), but of obscure origin in any case. O.E.D. hazards a guess on M.E. ladde, plural of the pp. of lead (v.), thus "one who is led" (by a lord). Meaning "boy, youth, young man" is from c.1440. Scottish form laddie, a term of endearment, attested from 1546.

PS. That retort about the "humanoids in between are called - 'G A Y S'" only shows how some people are stuck-up on being macho and all. Man, it's 2004 now. Society had been unsuccesful in keeping a lid on homosexuals (men and women).

It's time to live and let live. If you can't help it, keep your biased opinion to yourself.

PPS
Laffen's pictures were posted. I know, coz I was the one who posted it.
--------------------

And to get back on topic .... from meet-up experiences, there very, very few ladies who join them. Sometimes, all we get are lads. (I remember how disappointed the group was on our first meet-up when another esato user who we thought was a girl (because of his nick. Clue: first name of Tarantino's "the bride") turned out to be a guy)

@GOwin

Well said old boy.

@all

Is there actually any movement on arranging anything then?

Gotta say I still feel the cebit idea seems the most feasible, except for the fact that accomodation is going to be a problem. Personally I would not travel to the other side of the planet just for an esato meeting. So unless there is an event or holiday to be combined with it, I would perfectly understand that people who have to travel far, might find it a bit too much effort.

@Vlamm

How lucky for us that Cebit is in Europe! Perhaps it would be better planning for the event in 2006.

@gowin - Thanks so much 'lad' for that eloquently explained meaning of 'lad' I guess I just happen to hold a Thesaurus Dictionary rather than that of Webster's I think I might as well properly call
@vlammetje - 'Marge' from now on That I am sure will fit 'her' personality much better
I'll locate @laffen's pics in that thread . . . Is the guy (you thought was a gal) you are referring to back then was @mira . . as in Mira Sorvino

I guess a Grand Esato vacation in Tagaytay for Manila folks is just appropriate, specially when the Taal Volcano is about to erupt

Let me make you a suggestion: do NOT EVER call me Marge. In fact,just quick to Vlammetje, I did choose that as my name on this forum.

I think an esato meeting would be a lot of fun but i dont think it would be possible to gather that much members since some of them have to travel too much. Cebit would be a good option in my opinion.
