Hi guys!I know maybe this is not a best place to ask this but some of you might know this.I want to set up a company to provide sms quiz game with realy big prizes for mobile users but I don't want to spend a fortune on advertising.I'm thinking about to send a text message to every single mobile user in the UK.I found a way already, will cost me about £10000.Anyway,the problem is I need those (couple of millions) mobile numbers.I can not just make up numbers because that is not that easy.Any idea?
Thanks

Be careful. There is a directive from EU that forbidds sending advertisements as text messages to peoples mobile phones without having the subscribers approval.

As far as I know, all countries in the EU has implemented the directive, either in an own law or by giving the directive full effect.

The sanction is from a simple fine to prison (depending on country and how widely the action is taken).

I would most certainly recommend you not to do such thing!

But isn't that EU directive only for Emails? He might get away with the SMS idea.
Knowledge is two fold. Knowing a subject or knowing where to find out about a subject. I rely on both... That is why I come here.

No, in it's extended form it includes text messages to mobile phones. Time period for implementation has passed. If any members of the EU has failed to either convert it to national law or to give it effect in it's written form, I would be surprised. U.K. has seldom had problems failing their implementation as far as I know.

Well, you actually have to get all the subscribers approval first. It's not an issue with their operators; meaning it's no use to try getting all the operators to approve your advertising. It's all those people out there with a mobile phone that has to approve before recieving advertisement.

One solution is to put up a web site where people can "ask" for the text message to be sent to them. Obviously it wont give you the effect you want since you first have to get their attention to "find" your web site. And if/when you do that, you might as well advertise your business there (saving you the money to send text messages since they already have the information right in front of them when at your web site).

Your idea is not new, and that's why it's illegal to advertise your business by sending text messages to peoples mobile phones these days (without first having their permission).

A good thing ccmpanies are not allowed to do this. I'm sorry for you mate, that you can't pull off your plan.

But if you can spend that amount of money to deliver a message to each and every mobile phone user in the UK, I can image that a lot of other companies can do the same!

And I don't want to receive sms with commercial information all day long. That just wouldn't be fair!!
