K700 and Car Kit compatibility |

I currently have the HCA-20 car kit with HCC-30 System Cable and HCH-30 Car Holder and HCE-16 Mute Cable working with a T610.
I plan to upgrade to K700 so are the above parts completely compatible ?
And does the flap come off the bottom or does it fit in the cradle ok ?
Cheers

Finally managed to get half an answer out of SE.
They confirm the HCA-20 (electronics module) and the HCH-30 (phone holder) are compatible but the system cable HCC-30 which goes between them isn't.
Thats useful !
Mailed them again asking what system cable they suggested I connected between the electronics and the holder and they told me an RS232 cable. Don't think they've got a grasp of this yet.
Spoke to them today and they told me I should have got a cable with either the holder or the electronics which would work. Wouldn't believe me that you don't and you actually buy all 3 parts seperately - they even sell all 3 parts seperately in their e-shop !
Tech support suggested I speak to e-shop as they'd ran out of ideas.
Isn't it worrying when you phone tech support and seem to know more than they do !
Still waiting for a sensible answer. |

I'm in the same position as you.
I'm just getting my new k700 this week, to replace the T610. I had assumed that it would just be case of the new cradle.
I wonder if it's just a problem with the rubber cover over that connector? Maybe when that's folded back, the standard car kit cable is not long enough?
Anyway, I'll know more later this week hopefully.

Got some sense out of SE at last.
Customer suppport were a waste of space and told me to phone E-shop.
e-shop confirmed cable was ok with K700i.
Phone fits in HCH-30 ok with cover bent forward.
Time to try it tomorrow.
Might be worth you phoning up e-shop and asking same question in-case i got the wrong answer ? |

hi, since this k700 / hca-20 compatiblity thing is still one of big questions which holds the universe at it's grasp at this moment, I was wondering if there is any new info about this topic. I can't find it anywhere on the net.
The website of SE says it's not compatible, but ever cell phone webshopt does .... ? |

I'm just worried about the rubber flap on the bottom. I don't want to have to peel that open every time I get into my car, and I suspect the flap will break very soon after a couple of weeks of opening and closing it.
So, is there a reason that the K700 has this rubber cover? Or is it safe to remove it permanently? Any opinions? |

Yeah----there is no other solution then to remove the cover permamently, because to open it and close it any time I would want to use it in the car sucks....I do not think it would be any harm...

It wouldn't do any harm removing the cover, but it is there to prevent dirt and dust ruining the contacts when the phone is in your pocket. It really isn't that difficult to open a small flap each time you need to put the phone into the car

Albeit on a different model (S700i) I am also conserned about this ruber flap - for a different reason.
After only a few weeks of use, mine refuses to fix in closed position. Apart from battery charging, I have occasionally (4-5 times) plugged the wired headset to listen to radio (stupid design from Sony, who know everyhting about pocket radios, to require this wire as antenna - and not allow listening to even MP3s via bluetooth - but this is a subject for another thread).
I cannot believe that after so little usage the flap is already refusing to stay closed (!?!). It is perhaps down to microscopic wear/deformation of the buds that fix it in place. If it was so important to protect the contacts from dust why did the Godfathers of miniaturisation and crowned Emperors of product design and quality do such a shoddy job with this component? It is aesthetically ruining their (otherwise brilliant) design/look, and very irritating for the user.
Not known for much care about users or exemplary customer service, I don't even think contacting Sony Ericsson, who have disappointed on previous occasions. My operator is even less helpful (all they could say was 'Why so much fuss about such a minor thing?' - but became very fussy when I asked them to replace the handset they sold me with a new one).
Like previous posters, I also think a possible best approach is to remove this cover altogether. I understand the protective function it has, but (a) my pockets are not so dusty, and (b) I rarely swim with the handset.
My only concern keeping me from applying scissors, is that there is a piece on either side of the whole and the thin 'hinge' part. If you remove the outer part, the inner one will perhaps remain loose and start travelling inside the handset. The irritating noise and feeling of something loose inside is one thing, but it may also getin the way of buttons, swivel hinges or other moving parts - and cause damage.
Any ideas about best surgical approach for this amputation - or (that would be great!) alternative solutions that do not require removal?
Cheerz,
