K700: Big bug / Sim-free on Orange |

I have just discovered a rather major bug using the sim-free version on Orange.
For some reason when dialling the voicemail once you get a new spool notification or holding down the 1 key...Orange does not recognise your caller ID and therefore you get a "please type in your orange voicemail". However if you dial 123, or +44 7973 100123 manually, it does detect your caller id.
Also, I have line 2. On line 2, holding down the 1 button does nothing!
So basically to use voicemail....I have to say no to the new voicemail prompt and dial the number manually or use a contact in the phonebook.
Now that is a weird, and annoying bug!

I noticed exactly the same about a week ago and keep meening to post about it. I've tried everything to fix the number with no success. If you press and hold 1 then ring off innediately and redial it works just fine - very odd indeed. |

Should be fixed in future software release.
Just ring 123, not to hard is it?

Could it be an orange bug more than a phone bug ?
It works fine on my K700 with TDC in Denmark. |

Strange, I can't see an option to change the voicemail number, as there is no voice mail settings like stated in the manual o_O.

There is a way to change the number....but you are right the menu option is missing.
To change the voicemail number...hold down 1 as soon as the phone has just switched on and found the network. It should prompt you then....The first time it dials it after you program it, it will work successfully...but that is the only time!
The interesting thing is if you program it with 123 at this point....whenever it tries to dial-it, you get an out of order tone!

Still working on a fix for this, but I've been told you can put pauses into your telephone numbers that your phone dials. So, if I put in like +447973100123pTELNUMBERpPINCODE or something, as if p's were pauses, this can eliminate the problem for the time being until a firmware fix is out. |

Apperently others have the "Voicemail number" menu setting on their phones. Somebody suggested your problem may be SIM card related (option disabled by operator through SIM with purpose). If so, no
firmware update will fix your problem. I would suggest you contact your operator to check this out.

I know it's not my operator as it runs fine when I dial the number, just when I use the shortcut (holding done 1 key, or selecting 'call voicemail' in messagine), that's the issue. My T630 does it fine with it's shortcut .
I work for my provider (Orange), so I have an understanding of if the problem would be at Orange's end or net.

Absolutely this is a bug, well 2 bugs. The menu option missing may be SIM card related, but the fact it witholds caller ID is a bug. The fact that holding down the 1 key does nothing on line 2 is also a bug.
This is what I did.
Create a voicemail entry in the phone book with the pauses and pin codes etc to go through to your voicemail. It must be a phone book entry because when you change the voicemail number it won't let you put in enough characters.
Switch off phone. Switch on phone. As soon as it finds Orange, hold down 1. It will say "opening phonebook". It will then ask if you want to change your voicemail number. Say yes, click lookup, and choose your voicemail number.
Additionally...create another entry in your phone book with just 123 or +447973100123 in it. Add it to speed dial 1. To get to your answerphone more quickly, from the standby screen, just press 1 followed by "Call".

I have the solution! follow carefully.
Retrieving the voicemail number:
1) First goto Phonebook->Special numbers->Service numbers->scroll to 'Voice Mail' and write down the number. This is the voicemail number provided by your local company.
2) Next, (Here you have to delete your phone book, but you can easily resync it later with Outlook) goto Phonebook->Advanced-> 'Delete all' and confirm by pressing 'Yes'. Enter the lock code (Default is 0000).
3) Return to the main screen and press-hold the 1-key. You'll be asked to confirm the setting of the voicemail number. Press 'Yes'.
4) Enter the voicemail number as you retreived from the first step (for + press-hold the 0-key). If you want to enter your password automatically just press-hold the 7-key untill the 'p' character appears and enter the password (usually followed by #) |

Just wanted to say thanks to those who posted the fix to this - I have been backwards and forwards with Orange over this every day this week and they had me convinced it was because I was using a sim-free phone !
I didn't need to delete all my contacts - just followed Jon's solution:
Create a voicemail entry in the phone book with the pauses and pin codes etc to go through to your voicemail. It must be a phone book entry because when you change the voicemail number it won't let you put in enough characters.
Switch off phone. Switch on phone. As soon as it finds Orange, hold down 1. It will say "opening phonebook". It will then ask if you want to change your voicemail number. Say yes, click lookup, and choose your voicemail number.
When you say "yes" to change the voicemail number, you don't immediately have an option to lookup - you need to delete the existing number first - then "look up" appears.
I used +447973100123pTELNUMBER#pPINCODE#
The one thing that I would add is that, if you use pauses and pin details in the new phonebook/voicemail number, when you change the number after switching on your phone, it will automatically dial the new voicemail number. When it dials for the first time, mine came up as number unobtainable (because I'd added the pauses). Don't worry - when you come back to the standby screen and press 1 for the first time - it will work.
