Just ordered a K700 for free on contract on o2's website.
They're shipping them from Monday according the helpline, which is a lot better than the 'Possibly sometime in August, mate' I got from Carphone Warehouse.

When i say its free, it is on Online 200 and above (200 x-net, 500 sms/125 mms, 0.5MB GPRS) £30/month.

Just thought i'd tell any of you esato members in the UK who are after one of these.

The release date of tomorrow could be a good indicator of the sim free release

i dont think the phone is going to be that good, the features of new phones are so much better, because it is free it proves this theory

if it had been released 2 months ago it would have been up there, but now motorola for one are bringing out phones which satisfy everyones needs.

i am strugling to decide whether to buy a v300 or v500 atm, and think that the e398 beats the k700 hands down.

lol, please don't say that the k700 is poor then recommend a motorola as on alternative.

The offer on O2 looks very good, not sure wether to get it on contract for free or pay £320 for it sim free and stay PAYG. Don't want to get it from O2 then find that they have used 5mb of spae filling it with crap that can't be deleted.

One thing i don't get though is surely this prices are wrong?

Fixed line
£0.00
Voicemail
Free
O2 mobiles
£0.00
Other Mobiles
£0.00
Text per msg/WAP per min
£0.00 / £0.00

I know that the first 200mins are free, but what about after that?

should have the phone tomorrow

this is what o2 gave me as the 'after inclusive mins':
Fixed line
£0.10
Voicemail
Free
O2 mobiles
£0.10
Other Mobiles
£0.40 (expensive, but i never go through 200 mins a month, and most of my family friends are on o2)
Text per msg/WAP per min
£0.10 (although you get 500 a month included) / £0.10 (although you do get 500 WAP mins and 0.5MB of GPRS a month included)

the worst bit is customer service (50p/min ) or free by e-mail

ah well, in at the deep end and all that

I have ordered mine today.
I emailed O2 asking why the call charges were wrong on the site, and if they have tampered with the phone, I.E changed menu icons, but they couldn't answer the questions and recommended i phone the sales line. Which i did but they put me on hold for over 5mins so i gave up, and decided to just order it online.

Does anyone know the cost on line rental, as on the site it says line rental not included in monthly cost of phone. But i have searched there site and can't see anything about the cost of seperate line retal for the phone.

depends on which contract you chose. Online 200 (the one where the phone is offered for free) is £30 per month.

mine arrived this morning, still playing with it, best phone i've had for a while

How much is it a month though as O2 give 200mins calls, 500text, 500min wap + free insurance for 3 months.

O2 site says my phone has been dispatched so should have in 2 days or so, though they also say check the email we sent you, which they haven't, so i have no tracking number for the courior. This was said 6hours ago and i still don't have the email.

@paris:

I had a look at the onestopphoneshop site, deals look really good but they're advertising handsets that haven't been released yet (e.g. k700i on Orange - even Orange's own online store still says "coming soon") and they say nothing about that before you place the order. Makes me a bit wary of them to be honest, especially as they say you need their permission to cancel an order! Also, from their T&Cs:

"All free gifts are subject to a clearance period, and are sent under separate cover, 120 days after purchasing your equipment."

So you could see your bluetooth headset etc. in about 3 months....

Ordered a K700 from O2 online last Friday 18/06/04 (free on £30/month contract). Received DHL docket yesterday so drove to the depot (25 mile round trip) very excited only to find that they had sent me a Samsung E700!!!!! Have had about an hour on the phone them today (half of that on their 50ppm line) and I've been told that the phone has been ordered again 3 times only to now be called back and told I need to ring retentions and cancel my original contract (!!!) and then ring sales to order the phone again before they will send it to me.
They have offered to credit me for the time I've spent on the 0906 number as long as I fax them a copy of my phone bill but have told me I won't get a penny for the other cost of driving 25 miles (although I'll have to do it again if my proper phone ever turns up) and for my time wasted. They've literally accused me of lying about what I ordered, saying I must have made a mistake on the Internet ordering (I ordered over the phone), and also that I should have responded straight away to the order e-mail I must have got (which I didn't, yes you did, no I didn't) that would have stated Samsung E700 was ordered.
This has been the biggest pile of turd customer service I have ever encountered, the only thing stopping me from cancelling right away is that it's already cost me a decent sum and I've had nothing in return yet. That and I don't know where else to get it this week with as good a deal.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Certainly won't be getting any recommendations from me.

Rant over.
Apologies.
