George Bush has a heart attack and dies. He goes to hell where the Devil is waiting for him. "I don't know what to do here, " says the devil. "You are on my list but have no room for you." You definitely have to stay here, so I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I've got three folks here who weren't quite as bad as you. I'll let one of them go, but you have to take their place. I'll even let YOU decide who leaves."

George thought that sounded pretty good, so he agreed. The devil opened the first room: in it was Richard Nixon and a large Pool of water. He kept diving in and surfacing empty-handed over and over and over. Such was his fate in hell. "No!" George said. "I don't think so. I'm not a good swimmer and don't think I could do that all day long."

The devil led him to the next room: in it was Tony Blair with a Sledgehammer and a room full of rocks. All he did was swing that hammer, time after time after time. "No, I've got this problem with my shoulder. I would be in constant agony if all I could do was break rocks all day!" commented George.

The devil opened a third door. In it, George saw Bill Clinton, lying on the floor with his arms staked over his head, and his legs staked in spread eagle pose. Bent over him was Monica Lewinsky, doing what she does best.

George Bush looked at this in disbelief for a while and finally said, "Yeah,I can handle this." The devil smiled and said...........

"OK, Monica, you're free to go!"

George W's inbox - !

That Linda Rondstadt story is very worrying - the supposed home of free speech seems to be censoring it. Sounds like there's a lot of brainwashed people out there in the US - we need someone else to challenge them as a superpower - bring a bit of balance back into this world.

Please sir - can we have our empire back!!??

Not so much changed it, maybe rewritten a couple of bars....

Thing is, I fundamentally agree with you, it's just some of the 'finer' points I've been disagreeing on, like some of the theories you've aired. But I do however still agree with you about the US - as I've said before, I've recently started to dislike some of what the US stands for because of it's foreign policy (if that's what you call what it is they're doing!). Their core values are admirable - free speech, freedom of expression, etc. But the US has always been a land of contradiction, as that thing regarding Linda Rondstadt proves.

Although it sounds like Kerry is rather dimly thought of in the US, he's the lesser of two evils. I now get an almsost unconrollable urge to punch the TV set every time Bush appears on it and starts talking bollocks again (and mispronouncing it to boot usually!).

They need a either a decent candidate, or preferably a third party with a few different ideas and directions to take the world's last remaining superpower in. But, it seems that in most democracies there are two main parties, and no one else gets a look in when it comes to power.

Why Al-Qaeda wants President Bush to be elected
Aaron Swartz presents three reasons why Al-Qaeda wants President Bush to be elected (or re-appointed).

1. Reuters reported a letter from an al-Qaeda group that said “it supported U.S. President George W. Bush in his reelection campaign,
and would prefer him to win in November rather than the Democratic candidate John Kerry, as it was not possible to find a leader ‘more foolish than you (Bush), who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom.

2. A top CIA expert on al-Qaeda has concluded that al-Qaeda loves President Bush, and might go so far as to plan an election attack to rally the country around Bush.

3. Even administration officials concede “al-Qaeda has morphed into a loose and expanding association of regional terror cells and the Iraq war has fueled rather than doused the fires of jihad.”

Plane used often by White House carried 13 Bin Ladens out of US post-9/11

Still losing sleep over fears that Osama bin Laden's kin were forced to suffer in commercial coach class when they flew out of the US a week after 9/11? Today's Washington Post should make you feel better:

At least 13 relatives of Osama bin Laden, accompanied by bodyguards and associates, were allowed to leave the United States on a chartered flight eight days after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, according to a passenger manifest released yesterday. One passenger, Omar Awad bin Laden, a nephew of the al Qaeda leader, had been investigated by the FBI because he had lived with Abdullah bin Laden, a leader of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, which the FBI suspected of being a terrorist organization.
The passenger list was made public by Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), who obtained the manifest from officials at Boston's Logan International Airport. Lautenberg's office was given the document in recent weeks and released it before today's issuance of the final report of the commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks. Although much was already known about the "bin Laden flight," Lautenberg provided additional details, including the information that the plane, a 727 owned by DB Air and operated by Ryan International, began its flight in Los Angeles and made stops in Orlando, Dulles International Airport and Boston before continuing to Gander, Newfoundland; Paris; Geneva; and Jiddah, Saudi Arabia. The aircraft, tail number N521DB, has been chartered frequently by the White House for the press corps traveling with President Bush.

"The Saudi Embassy offered to pay more money if our crew had a concern," [Ron Ryan of Ryan International] said. But he said all were reassured because "the FBI and Secret Service were heavily involved. They were in abundance every place we were."

Interesting article there. But I'm curious - does it indict anyone at all or say anything at all about the Bush administration? If it tends to incriminate or even hint at indiscretion I'd like to know where. Can anyone help me with this? Just curious as to how this article is germane at all to the topic of this thread.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Censorship? You mean when a bunch of people come to enjoy a night of entertainment by a singer and get a political speech and demand something be done it is censorship? Linda Rondstadt has and always will have the right to express her political opinions so long as she is an American. What she doesn't have the right to do is demand that her employer keep her on their payroll to use their time to espouse her political point of view. Doesn't she have enough money and fame to make political statements on her own time and dime?

Brainwashed? You mean people who don't want to hear political diatribes when they are expecting singing? Honestly Sammy-boy! Just because they don't agree with her and were upset to hear her using their evening of entertainment to forward her political agenda doesn't make them brainwashed.

How happy would you be if I was a well known singer (I know – just imagine) and you paid money (big money) to spend several hours listening to me sing – only to have me go into a political lecture like this one on you? Would you be unhappy? If you did something like walk out or express your anger to the management would it be fair for me to call you brainwashed? If the management responded by taking my "one night contract" and refused to allow me to stay at their expense any longer and perform in the future – would they be guilty of censorship? Maybe they were just guilty of pandering to their brainwashed customers?

As far as "someone else to challenge [the US] as a superpower" … How about the European Union? The EU seems to be shaping up rather quickly to equal or surpass the US in raw economic and cultural might. Although I honestly wouldn't care for such a "changing of the guards" I'd be much happier seeing that happen than China or some fundamentalist Muslim theocracy rise to superpower status. And besides – it would be interesting to see how the EU responds when every other country, including the US, looks to it to solve all the world's problems. It's not easy meeting everyone's expectations when you're the big kid on the block. And what is this you speak of "Empire" … LOL

@patrick - wow, you've been busy typing! Good point about the Linda Rondstadt thing, although it does still seem like a bit of an overreaction by the management.

There's a lot of debate in the UK about joining the EU fully - and I very much doubt there will ever be a federal Europe - if there is, I'm not sure the British people want to be part of it. And me? Not sure. Juries' still out on Europe. And as much as many people would like Britain's empire days back, it won't happen, the world's changed too much. That kind of imperialism is obselete now, times they have changed. I was only joking with the 'empire' comment. Anyways, we're going off topic a bit here!

I'd give a slightly more detailed reply, but it's past 2am here in Blighty and I'm knackered!
