I think you can do it like this, but you need a Bluetooth or IR dongle:
1) Do a master reset
2) DON'T open the My Pictures folder until you've finished all these steps (so it doesn't generate previews of the pictures)
3) Upload some files to the T610 so you completely fill the memory, i.e you need 2mb's worth of rubbish to stick on there. You can use any file you like, just rename it so it's got an extension the phone knows and can sort into folders (like .thm)
4) You need to get the phone down to exactly 0 bytes free. 1, 2, 3 or anything else will not do, it has to be exactly 0 bytes. You can fill the phone up with some larger files at first, then use some 1 byte files to take up the last few bytes. When the phone says "Memory full" as you try to upload a 1 byte file you know you've done it.
5) At this point, you can go into the My Pictures folder. You'll see the hourglass logo in each of the pictures as it tries to generate a preview, but because the memory's completely full it won't work. It'll give you a screen to delete some stuff from the memory, but if you just ignore it and press back enough times it'll give you a message saying "Element unavailable - delete?" or something similar. At this point you can press Yes and the things will finally be gone. I think you can just repeat this deletion process for the other predefined items in the phone's memory.
I think this is how I did it, I don't completely remember now. The instructions are on a website somewhere, I remember that it's written in German and unless you're fluent, you'll need to translate it using Altavista or something. I'm not 100% as to whether this is exactly how it works, but I know the principle is right. Also not sure whether it works for more modern software versions than R1A081 (what I've got) |

I think it will work for the t230 cause it generates ebm files. Or preview files as you call it. But what happens with the tones and the games?

doesn't seem to work for me...nor does the 13 sec trick though, but i can do that on my old t300 so i know its not (entirely) me at fault.
I've got a Orange t610, and theres this crappy screensaver that takes up 127KB'sss wot a nice waste of space. |

So, is there any other way to do it? With direct access from a data cable? With fma? With special software? Can anybody find out? Hell, can anybody ask at howard forums? And yes, i tried the 13 second trial and surely didnt work. I just lost some valuable ringtones and some ribs of my friends... Help! SonyEricsson, the predefined items is they only thing i hate about you. And i foot like the gameplay of vrally. On T610 rocks but on small screens it sucks. Help us ANYONE!

The memory actually doesnt get freed up each time u do a master reset . I think the phone initially reports the free memory available wrongly. I did a master reset a while back and ended up with 2222 kb free memory ( which in itself is impossible considering the max memory available is only 2 mb) when i uploaded a small 40kb file the memory decreased to 1980 kb after which the memory was reported correctly for further uploads.

That's easy enough to explain, the reason the phone pics take up so much space is that they are pre-decompressed to a different format so the phone doesn't have to do it on the fly. When you master reset the phone, the pre-loaded pics aren't decompressed yet so they still take up their natural sizes. However, as soon as you go into the "My Pictures" folder they become decompressed, and so your space appears to diminish, but in reality it doesn't. |

I need to do it again myself tonight as I've had my phone's software upgraded today (albeit to R1L rather than the R6B I was hoping for, bastards) so if I can get it to work, I'll let you know. Just SEEING the O2 screensaver on my phone and knowing it takes up 67k is getting to me. I think it's unfair that the operators can sap your free memory to such an extent with their unwanted customisations, you should at least be able to delete what you don't want. |

Finally, I found it... http://babelfish.altavista.co[....]vfd2brandinglegal.htm&lp=de_en
Hopefully it works, I'm about to do it myself. The translation from German is not incredible, but you get a good enough idea to carry it out. |

Where it says that red X's will appear in place of the hourglass isn't true on R1L... you just have to move past that phase where you go into My Pictures and go straight to adding the phonebook contact, I managed to delete the O2 screensaver and all the other rubbish that way |
