We managed to get our mitts on the actual source for all this speculation about “Layla”, that new version of Sony Ericsson’s P900 smartphone that comes with a QWERTY keyboard: an actual PowerPoint presentation meant for Cingular that turned up on SonyEricssonInfo.com, a website the manufacturer uses for disseminating information to dealers.
As we guessed, the images we saw are Photoshopped — but by Sony Ericsson themselves, rather than some gadgethead with way too much free time. That means that the design probably isn’t official or anything and might change drastically before the phone sees the light of day (the presentation lists the ergonomics of the keyboard as “being evaluated”), but the presentation does mention that it is supposed to be compatible with American GSM networks and have RIM’s BlackBerry email technology built-in when it does arrive sometime later this year.
edit: continued from "New" P900 with qwerty keyboard and other stuff

well it looks like the buttons are the same as that on the chatboard and i think that the chatboard was very usefull, i was really dissapointed that they didn't release it for the p***, anyway i think of it as a p900 with a built in chatboard, lol,
oh and snapntype for ipaq seems like it's the same size too, and clie tg50.....
anyway at least sony has some experiences with small keyboards so i guess it shouldn't be bad.... |

Internal documents from Sony Ericsson that move the P900 upgrade (codename: Layla) from vapor to confirmed. It's clear from the information that the Layla isn't finalized, and to expect some changes as the "ergonomics [are] being evaluated."
Even better, the Tri-band phone is tweaked for US markets, with 850/1800/1900MHz bands, as well as the RIM Blackberry email technology as we reported earlier. Expect some changes, but the P900 (P901? P1000?) is rumor no-longer.

well then i guess it's going to be called something like p917, p907 or something like...
anyway it's probably not going to be for europe, which sad but i guess ppl are not going to get pissed about a sucessor lol
if it has the same features then i guess i'm happy that it's going to be for usa only at least i won't have to hear the same old complanits about the "new" sucessor and that se betrayed them, lol, even the previous thread had them already |

One thing I don't get about these photoshopped pics: Where are you supposed to put your ear when you speak on the phone? They've replaced the speaker with the SE logo! |

no there's still a speaket in the same spot they have just replaced the "cover" anyway you can see that there's a line " a hole" for the speaker on the same spot |
