Is there anyway or firmware upgrade that aloow a P800 to play MP3 as ring tone like P900?
That would be great if there's a way.

No, you would have to convert it to a wav file. [addsig]

To expand on switchbitch's comments. The best workaround I have done so far is to do the following.

1. Use WinAMP and convert the MP3 to a WAV file.

2. Use Sound Recorder from Windows (for my Win2K setup, it's found in:

Start -> Programs - Accessories -> Entertainment -> Sound Recorder

3. Open the WAV file. Under the "File" -> "Properties" menu, there is a "Format Conversion" frame. In there there is a "Convert Now" button. Change the "Format" field to "GSM 6.10" and the "Attribues to "44.1kHz, Mono 8kb/s"

4. Save the WAV file and send it to your phone.

Not as good as an MP3 but is sure comes close enough. It should be about half the size of the original MP3 file (assuming it was a 128k/s format at 44.1kHz, Stereo, 16-bit, joint-stereo format).

If you have Windows, everything else is free!

Hope this helps...

@firewired:

Go to the settings of WinAMP, change the output to "DiskWriter" and you can configure the file location and quality of the file. Just leave it at default.

To get to the config thingy, run WinAMP and while WinAMP is in focus, hit ^P (^=Ctrl, sorry me from old skool)...

This is what I get when I use my WinAMP 2.x

Hope this helps...

Managed to convert MP3s to Wav using Audicity software but size becomes bigger, reconvert again using Sound Recorde conversion and brought it down to 1+ mb for each song from 8 mb in Audicity wav format (AJack's tip).
Now happily can play songs as ring tones on my P800.
Thanks everybody.
