Yes yes yes, I used the search and I can't find anything concrete in the way of using p900 and Mac. Is anyone on this forum got a Mac? How do they sync the p900 and also backit up? Is it possible to send sis files to the phone and other such files through the cradle?
If anyone can help than that would be great. Having a mac is a bit aqward as nothing compatible for it. Oh the pain of being a Mac head. So hard, so hard. Maybe I should surrender my money to MS.

I've no idea about this subject but I do know from posts here that the software that mac users use is called iSync if that helps

Have a look at this thread there may not be specific info on Mac and p900 but there you can find people using p900 and they will be in a better position to help you

I'm using my P800 with an eMac.. From earlier I had a MSI Bluetooth USB-adaptor, and this works very nice with Mac OS-X. With my PC, I have to install drivers, upgrade and define other values in RegEdit - but with Mac, just plug the adaptor to the USB port and set up the configurations! (in System Configuration or whatever it is in English, I use norwegian OS-X  ).
I can explain how you set it up, if you want.. But maybe you need the Bluetooth dongle first..? Anyway, I tried with the USB docking station and that won't work, so Bluetooth is the way to do it. And no, there are no limits of what files you can send to the phone and back.. incredibly easy as well. The size is limited though, as you cannot send directly to the MemoryStick duo (not as I know, that is)

For every mac user in here - give the forum that someone linked to above a try. We users in there trying to persuade laffen to give us a specific mac forum. i hate the way everyone assumes that everyone uses windows!
In answer to your question.....First up, get a bluetooth adaptor as said above, very cheap! Next, make sure you have the most up to date bluetooth software on your mac using software update. You should then be able to transfer all your calendar and contact info using apples free isync app. very very very easy.
Its not possible to back the phone up unfortunatly. however you can use a program for the p900 or p800 called fileman (find on my-symbian.com). Install this and have a look in the c: drive on the fone for any files you mite need and copy them to the memory stick or copy them to the mac with bluetooth. I copied the mail folder as i wanted to keep all my sms's safe
The cradle wont work unfortunatly, no mac drivers, which seems like a ridiculously stupid oversight on se's part. You can transfer .sis files by sending them over bluetooth to the fone. As these are small they shouldnt cause much of a problem.
For larger files i would recommend a usb memory stick reader. (do a search on amazon.com). I would also recommend this for pc users as well, as the transfer speed is amazing compared to the cradle. If you have the money see if you can get a internal pci or pcmcia card as these are faster still.
overall your not missing out much, as long as you have a bluetooth adaptor, which are pretty cheap, you can do everything you need to. And if you get a memory stick reader, around £8, you can transfer larger files like videos and things.
the only thing you are missing out on is a way to firmware update the p900. the best thing to do here is...gulp...use a mate's pc. Or get hold of a copy of virtual pc for mac, this is a pc emulator that will allow you to use windows on your mac, which also means you can use the cradle. going to expensive extremes but it works. (check the apple.com store)

Relax, no need to get tense. The P900 is actually quite compatible with the Mac. If you are familiar with iSync (as you are a Machead you should be) then youre set to go. If you have one of the newer Macs with built in Bluetooth then you don't have to buy any additional hardware. If you have an older USB Mac, you will have to get a USB bluetooth adaptor. I'm assuming you are using OS X. Basically, all you have to do is run the bluetooth setup utility and that should pair your phone with the computer. Then search for the computer on your phone and pair it from there as well. After that you can use iSync to synchronize your contacts, calendars, and tasks with Mail and iCal. If you want to use entourage, there is an application availible that will allow you to do that (dont remember the name now). File transfers are very easy. There is an application called bluetooth file transfer in the Utilities folder. Just drag any file you want to transfer on to that and it will send it to the phone through bluetooth. You can transfer .sis files (as well as any other file to the phone like that. The .sis files will run an installer on the phone itself so you dont have to worry about that. Dont get worked up, its all quite easy. Unfortunately, though, you won't be able to back the phone up. This can only be done with PC suite which is only compatible with Windows. You can, however, use Virtual PC if backing up is important to you. Apart from that you won't have any problems using the P900 wih your Mac. |

OK I have a G4 15" PowerBook that I sync my P900 too via Bluetooth and iSync. After upgrade iSync to version 1.4 I started having lots of problems. The way I finally able to sync was to delete the bluetooth partnership then set iSync to reset sync state and then it would work again.
As for backing up your phone well I don't do that so I can not help you with this.

Honestly other forum members give esato stick for not apparantly being helpful. This thread would clearly give them the BIG DOUBLE FINGER. No doubt about it. Ain't that the truth.

This thread is so beautiful that it should be made a sticky in my opinion. This will be available for people with Macs, and this is important. This information I have been blessed with is s*!t hot and is not very easily available at all on the internet in general. Mac heads deserve more.

im also a Mac user using a p800
i have no problems syncing my mac using bluetooth (better than the supplied "wired" cradle"), im using an MSI bluetooth and the iSync program...with Panther...maybe you should have a software update if problems persist. although I cannot use the SMS function on the address book, but it's fine with me, i just want to sync everything on my devices.
If you want more you can use the latest version of Salling Clicker, to control applications on your mac using your p900.

For the last few posters; look at the mac bit of the "general" forum. its sticky and right at the top of the forum list. some helpful stuff in there about dialing from the mac's address book. very good topic for mac users.
salling clicker can be found at salling.com, and buy it as soon as you can. its amazing, im changing tracks and making itunes playlists from the other side of the room i found scripts for quicktime, dvd player, itunes, iphoto, powerpoint, keynote and as it works with applescript you can make your own things to do with the clicker.
as for the mac internet connection - ask in the mac general topic. always someone in there to help you. it should be possible though if the p900 is detected as a bluetooth modem, i havnt got mine to find the p900 as anything other than a phone yet. |

If you have Virtual PC, the complete SE PC suite works perfectly in it. I even have updated my P900 firmware a couple times all from virtualpc!
I think the "complete backup" that the PC suite provide can be very handy. It already happened that I screwed up the phone while doing naughty things on it (I am a developer, that happends)
Edit:
Oh on a side note, for the day-to-day synchronisation, iSync works fine. *However* it sometime stops recognizing the phone, in that case:
* Make sure the Mac is "Discoverable"
* Redo the pairing *via the phone, not via the mac*
* Try iSync again.
In my case it works fine. To send/receive files I use the default OSX app "Bluetooth File Exchange" and that also works fine most of the time, but in maybe 1/50 case, the app will crash, AND/OR the phone might also end up in an unusable state (locked up) and need a "hard" reset (press the ON latch for 10 seconds or so) then restart it.
So, it all works, but there are a few quirks

Hello all!
Have a problem here... I have an iBook G4 and a P900... This will be my first time to sync... I was a able to pair both devices successfully thru my BT dongle... My prob is when i open iSync and try to "ADD DEVICE".... No device is found... What could be the problem? I have already updated my Apple Bluetooth, iCal, Mac OS X etc... I need help!!! Would appreciate it if you just e-mail me at bmsantillan@tri-isys.com the soution to my problem.

Hello again...
Just want to clarify something... Apple recommends MAC OS X 10.3.2 for symbian phones (P9/P8)... im running on 10.3.4. will the downgrade solve my problem? has anyone tried? iSync cannot add my P9 to the devices. Hope to hear from ya guys. TIA
