How to set up bluetooth serial port in Windows 2000? |

I'm trying to sync a T68i with Outlook 2003, running on Windows 2000 SP3. I've got a bluetooth USB dongle which is "powered by Windigo". I've installed Blue Manager 3.1a, and it can see the T68i, and I've also installed the Sony Ericsson Comms Suite 1.5.9.2, but I can't work out how to get a bluetooth serial port working in Win 2K.
Blue Manager shows "Bluetooth COM Port - Serial" as being on COM3. I've enabled and reserved COM3 in the Sony Phone Monitor, but Outlook still can't see the T68i - presumably because I haven't set up the serial port correctly.
Other sources give instructions on setting up the serial port from the "My Bluetooth Places" facility. I don't have this facility, after installing Windigo and the Sony Ericsson. Is "My Bluetooth Places" something that I should be seeing somewhere in Win2K? If not, where/how do I define my bluetooth serial port?

Get the latest drivers for your BT adapter and install them. It should then work normally
(I had the same problem as well, actually reinstalling solves the problem, and I don't have any idea about its reason)

I searched for the latest driver (the model number on the package is BTD-2403). A couple of sites had a "driver" for this model - the driver was actually blue manager. I've now tried Blue Manager v2.1 and v3.1 but neither resolves the problem, and neither gives me the elusive "My Bluetooth Places".
...and the mini-CD that came with the dongle contains only Blue Manager - no other software....

there was a link to the wildcomm software somewhere on here. have a search for it, get the latest version and that should give you the 'my bluetooth places' you are looking for. dont worry the driver will work, but its about 35mb which might be a problem if you dont have a high speed connection. i think you will still have the same problems, the se com suite can be a little bitch to setup sometimes |

Many thanks for the tip. I downloaded Widcomm and amazingly have just managed to sync with the T68i.
Initially the PC lost its network access / IP address allocation after installing Widcomm, but I managed to get it back by disabling the "Network Access" service in My Bluetooth Places configuration.
Other than that I just needed to enable to BT serial port (on COM3).
I'm sure I'll get problems with this over time (i.e. the next time I install any comms-related software), but for now I seem to have a working setup!
