I said i'd post a little review, so here it is.

My H340 arrived at 7.30am on a tuesday. I'd only ordered it 23hours before so was really chuffed with the company i got it from (4waysolutions.com - highly recommended). It meant i had to goto work knowing i had a new toy waiting for me at home. I did plug it in to charge it up before i left though.

First impressions are that it's a bit heavy. It is my first Hard drive mp3 player though so i'm not worrying. It looks good. Carbon fibery effect is nice, and the Blue navi button and red markings on the other buttons are rather nice.
Theres a lot in the box that comes with the player: Charger, battery pack thing, docking station, carry case, headphones, remote, many many cables and instructions and CDs.

Turning the device on you are welcomed with a nice blue screen with the iriver logo on. The screen is great. 262,000 colours is more than enough for playing mp3s and looking at photos! You can change everything to do with the LCD display. How long it stays on, contrast, brightness of light etc.

Sound is great. Best to get some other headphones than the standard ones. It's always the case with these portable devices though. You can alter bass boost and treble boost, and it has SRS settings to enhance the sound.

I haven't tried the USB on the go feature yet. But looking at photos on the device is rather slow, if you're photos have any size to them. It takes about 10-15 seconds to load a 2megapixel photo. At least it can display them though unlike other inferior devices

USB2 transfer speeds are fast (as expected). I copied 22gigs worth of music from PC to H340 in the time it took me to go to the pub for a pint and back again (In reality, i don't know how long it took)

Accessing everything is rather simple. When listening to music press the navi button and you get to navigate through all the folders of music you have. Holding down the navi button will take you to the settings control panel thinghy. Holding down the record button will take you to a desktop type thing where you can select between audio/radio/photo viewer/text viewer/browser. I believe these buttons have all been the same on older iriver models.

Browser lets you browse all the files on your device. You can then delete, copy/paste and see file properties. Just a simple file manager really.

I'm really happy with the device. If you want a top notch device and have a spare £350, get this. If you want less for your money, get an ipod

I've got an iRiver H140 and I normally get some stick from the iPlodders until I point out the LCD remote, built-in mic and the fact that you can plug it into any Win98+ (or Linux or Mac) PC and its there as a hard drive. No additional drivers. That soon shuts those iplodders up...

"My iPlod looks better than that.."
a. Not when its in a packback it doesn't!
b. You listen to them, not look at them!

Suggest iRiver owners check out: http://www.misticriver.net/

i would like to thank dflipp for this suggestion

http://www.neurosaudio.com/

the Hisi feature is excellent. when you are listening to the radio and u hear a song u like but dont know the artist/song name you activate Hisi and it makes a little recording of it. when yo next sync it to the i-net it wil find out the name of thesong and the artist for you!!!

any neuro users out there? how does it compare to the ihp-120 (size+features) ??

Cheers
