Depending on the firmware region, R3M has multi-character search. (Chinese firmware does not have this)
# and something which I already have and prefer: no shutter sound under silent. .
Again, depending on the firmware region this can be done by putting the phone into silent mode (some countries have to have a sound play by law, such as the UK.). If you use DaVinci or Total MultiServer you can tell it to remove the camera shutter sound completely.
You can have MP3 ringtones but you cannot set custom message tones. You can only choose from the six preinstalled ones. You'd be better off waiting for the W900i, its basically everything great from the S700i and more (although I still prefer the look of the S700i)!

I have no idea. All I know is certain firmware customizations let you silence the noise and others won't let you.
If you buy a SE phone in the UK you will more than likely not be able to silence the shutter sound. CyberVisitor posted some interesting posts on this a while back. |

Has anyone heard anything about SE making a follow on to the S700? I need a new phone and would one with good camera features. I'd like to know if it's worth hanging for SE to get over their Walkman fixation or, dare I say it, should I swap over to Nokia and get the N80?

the W900i is the "follow-up" to the legendary S700i. it has everything the S700i has, with the addition of a 2.0MP camera (although i think it doesn't have a CCD sensor anymore), better music features (read: walkman-features), and a whole lotta memory (470Mb internal memory, up to 2GB expandable memory)!!!

@vrl, if u read dart's post again u will learn that he is not appreciative 'bout se's walkman phones so i don't think the w900 is a good suggestion.

No more swivel handsets from according to most sources. The best thing about the S700 was the screen and the nearest I have seen to that is on the W950 or the P990. I think the Walkman branding puts some people off.
People are waiting for a S700 but with improved specs but it doesn't look like this will happen.
Why, if Sharp can come out with the 903, (3.2mp and 2x optical zoom) and 3.2 mp cams are out and about Japan and have been for a while, can't bring out something as good?
The S700 takes as good as you can get with 1.3 but ultimately, the more megapixels the better.
I expected Sakura to be a bit more....

The big screen puts me off getting a replacement.. I suppose I can always use both, I don' t think I will be selling mine. I wanna get a black case for it. BTW has anyone seen REO recently.... |

@golden, u have already had a hands-on with the p990 & the w950 both? i aint a camera expert but a lot of camera experts on esato say that the megapixels don't make a difference, it's the sharpness that matters. supposedly the sharp903's camera s*cks compared to se's k750.

You can have all the megapixels you want, but if the optics, the sensor and/or the image-processing software is lacking, then you get no benefit other than higher resolution but lower quality images. This is part of the reason some of the companies make a big deal of the phones having Carl Zeiss optics. It's mainly marketing as if any other factor isn't up to scratch then one good component will be of no benefit whatsoever as it just gets bottlenecked by the rest of the device.
I've seen "Gigabyte G-Cam" phones advertised as 7mp. The actual sensor is only 5mp but it upsamples in software, so already that's no real benefit. No idea how good the image quality is, it could go either way as their computer products tend to be pretty good, but as to whether or not that translates to their communications division...
Then you've got Samsungs 7mp phones which have a proper optical zoom. Can't say I like Samsungs products though, been bitten too many times. |

@knight, have had a bad time with samsung myself. what i'm more curious 'bout is if golden has got himself to play with the p990 & w950 as he claims that both their screens r as good as the s700.

@goldenface:
the screen of the W900i, according to the review by mobique.com, is dull compared to the S700i. Take a look here.
yes, it seems will no longer produce swivel phones, as i read on the same site above about the cancelled production of the S600i, and instead made it as a W550i. can you please provide a link to the report about the cancellation of the production of swivel handsets?
@ayk:
sorry, i misread dart5's post by overlooking the walkman fixation. by the way, what seems to be the problem about the walkman branding?

i made a stupid thing selling my s700i. wanted to get a p910, but missed the opportunity...so i feel very bad about it...
now, that i dont have it anymore, i really appreciate!!! i am crying about the wel known menu features, and camera.
regarding the difference in sherpness and colours of cameras, take a look at the camera from moto mpx220: same 1.3 mp, but the worst images ever seen!!
dont ever do a stupid thing like me, and keep yr s700i!
ps: in stead of buying a newer (supposed to be better ) phone, i am getting really serious of buyng a new s700i again!!
