No, you can't use a USB cable between your Mac and K700 (or any SE phone). There are no Mac drivers for the USB cable. However, you can use an RS-232 data cable plugged into a RS-232 to USB adapter, and then communicate with the phone using GSM Remote. You can read and write the phonebook, send text messages and send files to the phone with it. It won't work with iSync. iSync is bluetooth only with SE phones.

In fact, there is no advantage at all in using a cable.

how come an rs232 with a usb adapter will work & not just the usb cable ? seems odd. . .

Basically its because the RS-232 to USB adapter comes with its own drivers for Mac OS X and then the computer just sees it as a standard serial device for communicating.

If you've got Virtual PC you can use your USB cable with the software available from the Sony Ericsson web-site.

I have two which both work perfectly and also work with the Bluetooth Firmware Updates released by Apple.

This one is priced at £17.99 inc. delivery

And this one is £20.17 + delivery.

Both work identically. There are others even cheaper (< £10) but I've not tested them, however, I've yet to find a Bluetooth dongle that doesn't work on Mac.

Here in Holland I'm on t-mobile and using my pb 17" to sync my SE k700i, send sms-messages via Addressbook, using Salling Remote Basics to control iTunes and Keynote, and so on. So far, everything is fine.
But now I want to dial a number from AB to make a call. The k700 screen indicates that it is dialing my contact, it shows the picture and phonenumber, which is in sync with Addressbook. However, the phone doesn't connect, instead, I get a 'Not in service' message. I prefer to input phonenumbers 'internationally', you know with '+' sign and country-code.
If I change the format to national, without +31 - with leading zero, sync the phone with my computer, dial using AB again and much to my surprise it works!
I'm a bit confused here. The phone has no problems with telephone numbers in the int. format, it just makes the call. Initiated from AB it only manages to setup a phonecall when the number is in national format. But the phone recognizes at least some parts of the command because it shows the number on its' screen (and also a picture if one is saved in the contact).
Well maybe this is a 'storm in a glass of water' (a Dutch saying) because I hardly ever travel internationally.

I'm feeling a conversion session coming up...

k700, OSX 10.2.8, Apple Address Book 3.0.3, D-Link DBT-120...

I'd like to dial my k700, and send/receive text messages, from Apple's Address Book (I'm already set-up to exchange contacts with bluetooth/isync).

When I select 'dial' or when I enter a text message - nothing happens.

Bug or feature?

If I upgrade to Panther will it work? - or do I also need to buy additional software?

BT is stalling on when trying to send pictures, s700 problem?

@elliot n: Apple only officially supported the K700 with Mac OS X 10.3.5 and iSync v1.5, so I'd recommend upgrading to them.

I have the same set-up as you and all works perfectly...

@kinc: S700 isn't yet supported by Apple, so I think you're gonna have to wait for a software update, unless anyone discovers a workaround.

When I use Address Book to dial a number can I use the Mac as the speaker and mic?

I know the Open Source program Float Mobile Agent for Windows lists this as a feature using something called audio gateway. Although I haven't tried it.

The Mac doesn't support Voice over Bluetooth yet - that's coming in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger...

Yeah! Bluetooth voice profile should be amazing... Now all I have to do is upgrade my beige G3 (still running 24/7 after 6 years) to take advantage of it!

Hey there! I have a lil problem: I am planning a party for friday, and naturally as a mac user, all my music is on iTunes. It's all kept on a beige so it's quite portable. Party is going to be happening downstairs, and my computer is upstairs... Oh well, no problem: I can bring it down... For obvious reasons, however, I dont fancy bringing my 21inch CRT monitor down as it was VERY expensive, and weighs about 50 kilos and will probably only end up getting broken. SO i settled on having a "headless" mac, meaning I'd plug a keyboard, power plug and an audio cable in and that's it.
Then i can either control it over VNC (which defeats the whole point of it being headless) or over salling clicker using my P910i as a remote.... Salling sounds like a good solution, except that as a 15 year old, I don't have a credit card handy to use to register my copy, and the trial edition is limited to 30 clicks only
Does anyone know if it's possible to get clicker through any other means than credit/debit cards? I've tried paypal but of course it doesn't work with my bloody bank account... Piece of crap
Are there any other options other than salling? Any way of getting salling using cash?
Anyone, help! Otherwise it will a) be a party with no music (yea right), or b) i'll be burning cds solid for the next 4 days (i have 4000+ tracks)

Thanks for any input!

Try e-mailing support@salling.com and explaining your problem.

Or get a friend/colleage/parent to buy it on their card for you?

Is your party going to be 200 hours long? That's what 4000 tracks at an average of 3 minuted each equates to? So you don't need to burn all your tracks!!
