At the TRON 2004 Show Japanese Personal Media Company shows off the T-Cube a pocket-size PC running T-Engine.

T-Engine is somekind of OS standardization project for networked computers in Japan that started in 2002. Seems they want to build something that does not require to license Windows. Don't know why they not just adopt Linux.

The T-Cube runs the current T-Engine OS and uses a CPU from NEC VR5701. The desktop is written for the chinese Market supporting Multi- and Super-Chinese Character sets.

The T-Cube (tentative name) is supposed to ship in Q1 2004.

pocket pc? i thought it had normal windows....

edit: yep i was right

The OQO ultra personal computer (uPC) is a fully-functional Windows XP PC small enough to fit in your pocket, yet powerful enough to replace your laptop. The OQO computer is the much-anticipated mobility solution for people who until now had to choose between the bulk and awkwardness of a laptop and the limited capability of a PDA.

The OQO computer has all the functionality of an ultraportable notebook computer, with a 1GHz processor, a 20GB hard drive, 256MB of RAM, color transflective display (for easy indoor and outdoor viewing), 802.11b wireless, a removable lithium-polymer battery, and FireWire™ and USB 1.1 ports. For input and navigation it includes thumb keyboard with TrackStik™ and mouse buttons as well as digital pen and thumbwheel.

The OQO computer is the most versatile computer to date. Standalone, it is as portable as a PDA. With the docking cable, it is no different than a laptop in its ability to connect to projectors and Ethernet networks. In the desktop stand with the docking cable, it is a desktop computer. As a Windows PC, the OQO computer moves seamlessly from one mode to the other with no synchronizing.

With an OQO computer you can move throughout your day and enjoy constant access to all your information and Windows applications. You can use the same computer for high-powered applications at work, sending email at home, listening to music on the subway, or watching a movie on an airplane. It is the only computer you need

That vaporous OQO Ultrapersonal Computer we’ve been hearing about for years now might not be showing up in stores any time soon, but it is turning up on TV. We didn’t catch it ourselves, but we heard that some bad guy on 24 was spotted using one. No word on whether the remaining episodes of the series will be spent determining whether the OQO is for real or not.
