Bafo BF-120: really annoying me now!!! |

Hi, I have a Sony Ericsson Z600 and I ordered a BAFO BF-120 IRDA USB cable off ebay. Everything arrived ok. However, I'm trying to follow the instructions exactly and nothing works! I'm sure I'm installing the right drivers. I also have a sticker with 'V6102F' on it stuck on the IRDA.
First of all, I made sure the IRDA wasn't plugged into my USB and stuck in the driver CD, went to DRIVER/BF-120/Vishay6102F/WINDOWS/ and double clicked on Setup.exe. I specified where I wanted the folder to be made and it went through the usual stuff until I got the message which said I could plug in the IRDA and continue my installation. I do that and then that box comes up to ask me whether I want Windows to search for drivers or specify etc....
Now, this is probably where I went wrong. I have tried both options. With the first option, I get like 7 different drivers, the first 1 is some driver from the WINDOWS folder on my C:drive and the others from the CD (but they vary between Win98 and Win2K). With the second option, I have tried going specifically to the exact folder with the V6120F WinXP driver. But both don't work.
It could be that my IRDA is working. After the installations, I have tried sending a picture/sound clip from my Z600 to my PC via the IRDA but nothing happens and I keep getting the message 'Connection failed' and 'No devices found'. This is where it gets really annoying!
I have installed that Mobile Monitor but when I open 'catcheventatl', all I get is 'Disconnected' at the bottom. I have checked the COM tab. All I see is COM1 and I have enabled it and reserved it (dunno whether I should do this). But still, nothing works!
The funny thing is that when I got it the very first time, I just plugged in my IRDA, Windows did some stuff automatically (before I even had the chance to insert the driver CD) and I immediately tried sending a picture from my phone and it began to transfer! But the transfer never finished and a problem occured.
So if anyone could help me on this problem since I have just wasted £15 on this stupid IRDA USB cable and I really want it to work. I have read some threads here about how people have installed loads of these and they work perfectly.
Btw, it's not to do with my phone right? I tried sending something to my friend's laptop IRDA port and it did it perfectly! |

Btw, it says on my taskbar at the bottom that 'Z600 is in range'. I have set it to search all the time and my IR on my phone is permanently on. However, this taskbar icon either appears randomly or it appears when I move it around in different places. When I try doing something like sending a file (which doesn't work), it disappears. Shouldn't this icon stay permanently if my phone is nearby? |

whenever your phone's IR is activated and can be seen by the BAFO adapter, the IR icon should show up.
At least we know the installation of the driver is successful (otherwise you would never get that icon). Under device manager -> Infrared , and on one of the tabs, you can select what chipset for the driver. Make sure it's the right chipset, or if it already is the right one, try a different one. There are also other adjustments such as speed, try to play around with those too. |

Well, at the moment, I have the Windows drivers installed and there are only 3 chipsets to choose from, 2 from SigmaTel and one from Vishay. Despite trying all 3 at all the available speeds, I can't get the icon to come up all the time and stay that way when I leave my phone (IR-activated) next to it. I have now lent my IRDA and USB cable to my friend to test it on his PC. He will test it using his Samsung E700 to make sure that there isn't a problem with the IRDA port. If it works perfectly on his PC, then I'll ask him to give me the settings and how exactly he installed them and then try it on my PC. Other than that, I have absoluetly no idea what is wrong with mine. |

I have got the exact same problem with my infrared device... its the Bafo BF-120 (6102f) USB to IrDA Infrared Adapter.
Ive installed it as it says in the instruction booklet, Not plugging the device in until its finished installing the drivers from the disc.
When its finished installing it (on XP Pro SP1a) i plugged in the infrared usb cable and it came up "New hardware found" IrDa Device - Then it asked me to choose where the drivers for the device were...
So i selected from CD and chose the directory of the XP Driver.
I checked in the system properties and it all seems ok, Correct settings - "value vashay 4102f", speed "default" "turn around "1.0ms Default.
But it cannot see any of my devices, It canot see my sagem myv-65 phone, My Nokia 7210 Fone, My Samsung mp100 Fone either.
Ive ovbiously activated irda on the phones but it doesnt seem to work.
I downloaded a newer driver from the website and that doesnt work,
I changed the speed of the irda to different settings and still nothing...
If i try sending a picture from my sagem to my irda device A message pops up saying SAGEM IN RANGE for about half a second then dissapears. But why wont it stay in range all the time like its supposed to?
ITS REALLY DRIVING ME CRAZY PLEASE PLEASE SOME1 HELP!!! |

Play around with the settings on the driver... that's all I can say. Turn around time, Chip type. A slower speed is always helpful. |

Im not familiar with the ir but I have had tbl installing drivers on xp. Xp likes to forget where drivers are when they arent cert by microsoft.
I have had to make a special folder on C drive transfer only the xp drivers to the folder and make it look there. then when I plug in the device again it says no drivers installed I make it look there again and install them again and this usually takes care of the problem. I usually have tbl with .inf or .ini files and usually only have to move that to the c drive. Also some apps dont like having the default target changed on first install I let it do its thing then move it later if necessary. Also double check in device manager xp lets you think its installed ok but if you look there its not. Remove device and try again.
Heres another thread that talks about bt and some other software that needs to be installed too. Maybe it applies here. http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=13687

Hi,
Even I had the same problem, its queit different, Iam able to send and recv files, but only for the first time and when I try to send files again, it stops in between and does nothing, it doesnt even give me any erro message,
I just made a work around suggetion myself, I just go to IR settings and change the speed settings and close the settings and transfer again, it works, but the problem is I have to do this everytime I want send a new file or recv a new file,
Does anyone has any suggestions regarding this, I use Windows 98 and Mob is Phillips 530

I would suspect the IR adapter may be defective. Try using it on another computer and see if it has the same problem. If same problem, then hardware defect. |
