Bought a 6600 but NOT HAPPY |

Hi all,
Went out yesterday and bought a 6600 on orange contract. Took the phone home and there was a stuck red flashing pixel right in the centre of the screen. So took it back only for it to be swapped for another 6600 with a dead pixel. They didn't have any more in stock in any branches locally so they told me to take it and when they get a new batch in they said they would call.
Later I then realised that there was a flashing stuck pixel as well, which I noticed when loading up a very dark picture. So two phones in one day with dead, or stuck pixels.
On top of this the phone supports nothing! My bf tried sending me a wav file, which the phone recognised but did not play, and he also sent me an .mpeg4 movie file from his p900, which was was not supported.
Other problems....
On two occasions the phone has had an error where it has had to exit out of the folder that I was in and its re-booted itself once. Whats the story?
I like the phone a lot but all this has put me right off. Out of the box its not compatible with anything and I reckon loads of money will need to be spent buying apps to make it have compatibility with other phones.
SE, Motorola and Samsung all can share MP3's, .wav files, and other phones support mp4 and gif. why not the nokia?? Its supposed to be a smart phone.
What do you all reckon I should do?
I know most ppl here hate Nokia phones. I still can give it back under the 14 day money back gaurantee. |

Like I have said in another thread your grenade(mobile) exploded.
Anyway I respect the fact that you have spend your money for this phone that you like. If I were you I would ask from Nokia to replace the phone since you have spend all this money for this. For that amount and worth you deserve a very good service from them and you have every right from them to find a solution.

is it that hard to listen to othere people? it would be much nicer and easy if you would just ask us for advice when you buy a new phone. the 6600 is not good at all, better get a P800 or P900. its much more advanced and you wouldn't have to say that your feeling sad for buying that nokia that isn't doing what you had expected
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA |

Thanks for replying guys
Bart.. I don't like the look of the p800 and p900 because of the stylus operation. I want a phone kind of look. I've always been with SE in the past, and if they had a phone style smart phone i would have bought it.
The p900 craps on the nokia in every sense of the word accept for taking video clips and photos. We tested them both and the nokia won.
There doesn't seem to be anything else on the market! And I dont want a PDA style phone. The SX1's keypad just looks crap and Sendo will not be released till April!

Learn about the phone before you bash it...
it does support wav file..
does not support mp3 or mp4. it does support 3gp
in order for mp3 and 4's to play you'll need a third party app. like pvplayer and ultra mp3.
the 6600 is useless without third party apps. unlike the p series which has stock applcations that can get you by.
p900 mp4's will not work because of 2 things.. size, 6600 craps out on the dimensions and teh way it is encoded. espsically if it's the mp4's that were made on this site that are optimized for the p900.
i realize you guys all love SE.. but the 6600 is a great device and very powerful if you have the right blend of third party apps.
think of it this way the p800/900 isn't really that great until you have a tracker or handy day running on it.
if you need a list of third party apps to get started i'll help you out.
1)task manager
2)seleq or fexplorer
3)ultra mp3
4)pvplayer
if you want more help just post.
the dead pixels thing has been an issue...can;t help you there
and please don't start talking garbage about motorola and samsung being able to share data. That's crap.
only SE and Siemens and nokia SERIES 60's are able to share data freely. most moto's don't even have irda.they require yo to use a stupid datacable and a software that their programers use. (moto pst or whatever) crap! the v600 has retarded bt and samsung have crippled irda's like nokia phones.
and recently the z200 has a semi crippled irda port as well.

DragonEye- If it supports wav files why the heck does it not play wav files sent to the phone????
I've had a wav file sent from a p900 and it didn't play. Used bluetooth to send a standard small wav file at 16 bit 44.1 kHz and that too did not play!
I know I need 3rd party apps and I stated that in my post... I'd need loads of them to even get the phones compatibility up to a good standard. Where is support for mp4, .gif, mp3, .doc etc?
What pisses me off is this is Nokia's top of the range symbian phone and its compatibility is SHIT out of the box! The p900 supports far more file formats without having to spend more money and time downloading.
Also in my last post I said something about compatability between samsung, moto and SE. I should have made myself clearer so that ppl like you dont start saying im chatting garbage!...
I know samsung phones are crap in terms of features, particulraly there lack of bluetooth and good functionality but even the latest samsungs can bloody play mp3 and wav files as standard. Even if I donwloaded an mp3 player I cant' have mp3 ringtones.
I have friends with v600, p900 and a samsung and they all can share music files between them and there is no problem sharing video clips between the p900 and v600.
I've already started using my t610 again. The 6600 is in the box ready to go back to orange tommorrow cos the final straw was when it decided to re-boot itself and get stuck two more times! i've only had it a day. Never had these problems with my SE phones. Not saying SE are perfect but least they worked. The first time I've had to give a phone back because it was too tempremental.... had to be a Nokia, which is a shame cos i did like the look and feel.
I'm not denying the phone may be decent with downloadable apps but I'm not sticking around to find out cos I reckon if i keep it the dam thing will be in repair all the time!
You say the v600 has retarted bt.. seemed to work perfectly fine when I used it.

id have to agree with snowbear on this one
if you want a smartphone that actually looks like a phone then the SPV e100 or now the e200 would be a good option
the e200 has been upgraded from the e100 so that it can record video clips as well as take photos
microsoft pocket and woteva MS office youve got should sync no problems
its also got memory card slot so you can upgrade mem. size
ask me personally - P900 ALL THE WAY!!!!

which samsung are you using? cause i'd really like to know.... all sammie's i know of have crippled irda. s300, s200, e715 etc..etc..
a wav file should play if you sent it to the inbox the recorder program should open and play it. (i don't have your phone in front of me so i can't help you on that) but wav's do work out of the box.
yes the new wave of moto's have better connectivity... moto bt is very unstable if you ask me. it craps out a lot from my testing and many people agree. eventhough it is getting better.
i realize that your upset that your 6600 doesn't do everything straight out of the box... but nobody claimed it did in the first place.
all i'm saying was you post just seemed like you were nokiahating just cause esato is an SE forum...
nokia never said this supported mp4, gif or mp3. so why do you assume it does? just casue it's a smartphone?
love it or hate it third party apps will solve most of your problems
i can send you tons of wav files if you want to double check?
i personally hate the M/S operating system
i had a mio mietc and mpx200 and thjey crashed all the time.

@anonymous 1- how come the fone (n6600) has a problem on it? I've never seen that kind of a problem with the n6600s here in Manila, was that a factory defect? If so, then have the unit replaced, if still covered by warranty. I like the n6600 model too. If would be replaced, an SE P900 is the best alternative here, but since you don't 100% like it, better look for a samsung replacement. |

Just one correction. 6600 supports MPEG-4 VSP and also 3GP (H.263) and RealMedia. |

To be honest I wish i could keep the phone but its so unstable. At the end of the day I could have downloaded the apps, its the bugs I'm having real problems with. |

i think it depends on the phones that orange has. maybe it has the old firmware and the 1st version. the ones in europe are different from the ones being released in asia.
my t616 has a dead pixel the day i got it and i also had it reflashed to the latest firmware due to it was giving me headaches. if you can have your 6600 flashed to the lastest firmware then maybe the problems will disappear if not then be minimized.
the p900 also has problems for i have been reading every post about it here that's why i won't get one but will get the nokia 6620 once it comes out here. |

I was a Sony Ericsson phone user and wanted to buy a P900, but now I'm using 6600.
Reasons:
1. 6600 is much cheaper! It lets me feel that it is worth.
2. 6600 uses MMC instead of expensive MSD. I have a few MMC.
3. P900 voice recorder can't record calls.
4. 6600 is stable.
5. More applications and games for Series 60.
I'm not a die-hard fans. Even if there are many people hate Nokia in all ways, but I would really like to say here, 6600 is a good smart phone (can I say "Smartphone"? Is it registered by Microsoft?).
I haven't really used P900 so I cannot tell is it a good phone. But I just know that 6600 is not as bad as so many Sony Ericsson fans say. It is unexpectedly stable, at least much more stable than my T610. It has a nice screen, very nice feeling when I was holding it on my hand, good camera for a phone at this moment, good user-interface (Series 60 is really good in my opinion) and it is so easy to use and to be personalized.
Please be objective and don't just blame on a model or praise a model on just one side. |
