Hello, friends. I'm looking for prototypes to fill my Ericsson collection. If you sell something I'll be happy to consider you proposals.I'm looking for either realized models or unrealized. I'm from Russia, payment by Pay-Pal.

@kaliostro To me it looks like a PT280 not a PT680. PT680 had carrying case like the Hotline.

@all Does anyone still have the GS88 box? There is a person writing a book about the history of phones that need a high resolution image. On that box the word "smartphone" was used for the first time. Please help.

@all Also, if anyone has the R380s/world box still. The author is interested in a high res image of that too, because
that was the first commercial smartphone.

Hi,

I'd like to share with with two ericsson phones I've had for a long time now. They were a present from the father of a friend of mine, just a while after the time the phones were released on the market. He worked for ericsson for a year or two helping to develop their wap application and so he got some ericsson trial phones. I remember very well he had those phones before they were released, which was pretty cool.
One of the phones is a R320s and I know for sure it is a trial phone because it had a sticker on the back saying so, but it peeled of with time. The other is a R380 and I am not so sure if it is or not a trial phone. I was hoping maybe you could give me some info about that. I used both for a very long time, but specially the R380s. As you can see the R320s is in a pretty bad shape, however after like 10 years in a box I ordered a brand new cover, and a LCD, keypad etc... So it's gonna be like new in a few days. You can see the mark were the "trial phone" sticker used to be.
I remember very well that one of the menus on the r320 did not work, but I'm not sure if it was the wap or the favourites. When you came across that menu, even if not clicking "yes", the phone would just freeze. They still work but could use new batteries. Last time I charged them was a year ago, and they were not very long-lasting.
Here are some pictures, and you can also see my t28s but that is a "normal" phone that I bought.
So, If you could tell me if the r380s is or isn't a trial phone I would appreciate! Also, is it normal that I cannot write sms unless I open the cover/keypad? (If so, why are there letters on the keypad? Aesthetics?)
Thank you

So much knowledge on this forum, however it has been like 3 days since my post with the R320 battered trial phone and the R380 and nobody replied. Just read this from @Stolleman at page 679:
"Ok, for your P1C:
P = Prototype
1 = Major update
C = Minor update

R1A/FP2:
R = Revision
1 = Major update
A = Minor update
/
FP = Factory Prototype
2 = Major update

I think R1A is for the firmware and FP2 is for the hardware."

Interesting stuff, so that's the meaning of "R1A" on my R320s trial phone? "Revision major AND minor update?"

Would appreciate if I could get more info and understand a bit more about this phone.

Thanks

Update: I repaired my R320s Trial phone. Almost new cover and as new keypad, antenna and LCD. Was all broken and battered since 11 years now. Works as good as ever. As I said in may previous post the wap doesn't work AND I can't create new shortcuts either. The phone will just freeze and I'll have to take the battery out.
You can see in the pictures that it doesn't have a test menu and you can also see the software edition and maybe explain to me what all that means.

Seems to be an Regular early type, if it was a true Prototype your imei number should start wit 00.
Early regular made Ericsson phones can have limited firmware. I have at least two early T28's with an incomplete service menu, wich tells me it is also a very early firmware.

Hey thanks for the answer. I understand, the ones you show are prototypes. But mine (the R320) used to have a sticker saying "trial phone", exactly like this one:

which you can see @Gobli on page 697.

And the numbers are very similar (except for the IMEI). It's a shame the sticker came off, but when I got the phone I was just a kid and just used it without caring too much.

As to the numbers, I am no expert on the subject, just had this "trial phone" for a long time a wanted to share with Ericsson collectors since I got it out of its box and repaired it, and maybe learn something about it on the way.

By the way, just noticed the imei number on the sticker of my R320 ends with a "4" but when I dial *#06#, the imei ends with 0-02 instead of "4". Do you or does anyone has an explanation for that?

It seems to me that you don't ship prototype phones (with incomplete firmware to app developers); they need phones with complete firmware. Wich means devs get the first batch of phones produced for the market, such was R1A.
These are usually produced moths before a phone gets introduced.

About the dispayed IMEi, I noticed that the one displayed on the phone self does not show the last few digits as printed on the back.

Ok, that answers it! Thanks

Pictures of my other ericsson:

The GA628 is in never used condition and the GH172 is practically new. However, there's dust on them, although they have been in a shoe box for more than 10 years. The GH 172 has two original batteries and charger.
The T68 is used but in pretty good condition.

Hello Ericsson fans!
I'm selling one of my Ericsson phones, R310s. Sharkfin is brand new, almost unused (housing and rubber around is still rough like in new phone).
If you are interested please send me PM or email on adrian4477 (at @ ) gmail.com
