Z600 with HBH-65 problems |

Hi,
Recently I got the HBH-65 and was thinking of all the convenience I can enjoy while using it. mmm....but it seems not to be the case....
I had paired the HBH-65 with my Z600 with no problem. Now consider this normal working environment. With the phone on and the bluetooth on, I turn on the HBH-65. According to the manual, you will hear a low beep followed by a high beep. This, I hear. However, immediately after that I will hear 3 short beep. The headset indicator will then flash green. Question.
Q1. Can anyone tell me what the 3 beeps mean?
Then you will notice on your phone screen, the "Bluetooth, Activated" symbol comes on. It does not shows the bluetooth headset attached symbol even though I had already paired the headset and the phone.
To confirm that I actually can use the headset, I'll make a call to my voicemail box. Once the call is made, surpise, the bluetooth headset attached symbol appears and I can hear sound in the headset.
Below is the instruction from the manual on how to make a call using voice dialling.
a. Make sure the phone and the headset are on and within range of each other. Press the call handling button.
b. It may take a while to setup the connection between the phone and the headset. During this time, you might hear a repeated tone in the headset. After the beep, voice dial as you normally would.
c. End the call by pressing the call handling button.
I follow the instruction and as per b. I do hear the repeated tone. However, after the beep, I can't do voice dialling.
With a wired earpiece, when I press on the button of the earpiece, the phone screen will show "After the tone, say a name or voice command". After which you can do your voice dialling.
However, on the bluetooth headset, it just don't happen.
I then discover something. Whenever you receive a call, the bluetooth headset attached symbol will kick in and you will be able to use the headset to pick up the call.
Take note that it takes about 2 sec later for you to hear a ringing tone in your headset. You can only pick up the call when you hear the tone in your headset. Before hearing the tone, you can't do a thing with the headset.
After you end the call and before the bluetooth headset attached symbol disappear, you press the voice handling button then the phone screen will show "After the tone, say a name or voice command". You do actually hear the tone in the headset and the voice dialling works just fine. Question.
Q2. Why is the bluetooth headset attached symbol not appear when the phone is on standby?
Q3. Why voice dialling is only working when you have the bluetooth headset attached symbol appear?
Q4. How to have voice dialling working when the phone is on standby?
Q5. How to keep the bluetooth headset attached symbol continuously on?
Z600 does support voice dialling as I had used it either on the phone itself or with the wired earpiece attached. I just can't get it to work with the HBH-65. Can someone help me?...

Have you paired the phone and the HBH-65? You have to do that before you can use it. Since it's working fine otherwise I guess you have done that. If the headset connected symbol would apear all the time it would mean that they always would be connected sending info. That would take a lot of battery power. Instead it should be working like that if you press the dialing button on the headset it should send a signal to the phone letting it know that you want to voice dial. However this dosen't seem to happen on your headset. I suggest that you call and then upgrade both gadgets. It should work.

I'll try to answer all your questions to the best of my knowledge.
1. Sorry, I don't know what the 3 beeps stand for and why developers used it there. You might PM Cytech and ask. He knows a lot of things that only insiders know.
2. Because the headset is not always connected to the phone. Just like what Universal said, if the headset is always connected, the phone and headset battery would get used-up very quickly.
3. The symbol is telling you that the headset and the phone are now 'talking to each other'. The sound which you would normally hear through the phone's speakers can now be heard on the headset. The headset mic is now also active and the phone's mic is temporarily deactivated.
4. Press the button on the headset, once, to start the connection process. After hearing the series of beeps (as stated in the manual), you can then say your voice command.
Or, you can have the 'Magic Word' turned-on, so you can just say your magic word, instead of pressing the headset button.
5. Go to Connectivity, then Accessories. You'll see your HBH listed there. Highlight it first then press select. You should now see the headset symbol/icon appear on your screen.
Beware, that this uses up a lot of the batteries power. This is also the same with the Magic Word turned on.

Universal, thanks for your quick reply. I had guess as much that to have the sybmol, it will eat up both batteries very fast. As I said, both devices had been paired. It works fine. I can make call, pick up call and end call with no problem. I just can't get voice dialling to work.
CrackerJack, I did press the button on the headset and do hear the series of beeps. However, after that voice command just don't like. It only work when I had just end a call and immediately press the button on the headset again. Then voice command works fine.
I also know that by going to connectivity menu, you will be able to initiate the connection process but that would mean pressing a lot of buttons. Imagine trying to do that while driving. No way. Too dangerous. Thanks for your help. Maybe I have to PM Cytech.
I really need help to get the headset and the Z600 to work with voice dialling. |

Try resetting the headset and go through the process of pairing the two devices again. A friend of mine did that when his HBH-30 didn't work that well with his phone. I haven't heard him complaining about devices ever since. It might work on yours.

Do that. And I don't know about the Z600 but on the T68i you have to check a thing under settings, voice dialing, and then bluetooth. See if that is there. If it isn't then I don't know what.

Universal, I found in Settings - Voice Control, I have the following
1. Voice dialling
2. Voice redial
3. Voice answer
4. Caller name
5. Voice profiles
6. Sound recorder
7. Magic word
8. Erase all
Only managed to find under voice answer,
1. Off
2. Edit commands
3. Environments
Under Environments, I found
1. Car handsfree
2. Port. handsfree
3. Bluetooth.
I thought I had went through all the menu and didn't know that I miss this one. Had selected it and will test it soon. Will let you know if it works.
By the way, can anyone tell me the meaning of car handsfree and port. handsfree. I just can't really understand the difference.
Also in the profile, I found a profile name TTY acceessory. What's this about?
CrackerJack, I'll also try to reset the headset and do the re-pairing of both devices again. Hope it works. Will let you know the outcome.
Thanks a lot.

That's the setting I was talking about. Now that you say it i don't know if it will affect voice dialing but anyway.
