Looking for some pointers here. I've got a O2 PAYG sim which has free GPRS on it (£10 month, 300 wap mins, 300 text jobbie, GPRS is free somehow )
I can't figure out how to get my iPaq 2210 to connect to the phone via bluetooth and use a GPRS connection. Someone mentioned to me about setting up a new GPRS profile on the phone, then the iPaq has to dial some sort of short code to the phone. Any ideas?

ok first you need to be sure that the GPRS you will be using is "internet" GPRS not "wap" GPRS. For some reason the carriers distinguish the two. You can usually tell by looking at the data account APN and if it has wap in it somewhere then probably its wap and no good for this purpose.
Have determined or setup the correct data account make a note of the CID for that data account.
You will need to pair the ipaq with the phone so do that from the ipaq using the bluetooth manager, new.
you need to create a dial up connection (start, settings, connections) and enter *99***CID# (where CID is the value you noted above) and use bluetooth dialup modem as the modem.
If you are using pocketpc 2002 or earlier you will need to also change the dialling patterns for local, long distance and international ti the value G so that the ipaq doesn't try and add anything to the dialled number.
when you connect using this you will be prompted for username, password and domain but just leave those blank and tick the box that says to remember these details so you don't have to do it next time.
for pocketpc 2003 the procedure is fairly similar although the menu items are in slightly different places.
let me know how you go

Thanks for that, its worked most of the way, however the APN is apparently incorrect for O2. The internet GPRS APN for contract users is mobile.o2.co.uk however this doesnt seem to work for Pay And Go users... tried searching for it with no luck. |

Hi,
I'm on an O2 contract but if you check their mobile web section on their site (http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/mobileweb/0,,141,00.html) and check the setup instructions, it appears that this is totally independent of whether you are a contract or Pay & Go customer.
What I would say is don't use their software, I originally downloaded the latest version onto my IPAQ H2210 and it didn't work (it may be because it is a WM2003 PDA).
I don't know if this will help but here are some notes I made adapted from O2's manual setup guide plus other sources which worked with my IPAQ and T68i and now Z600.

Thanks for all the help there, all the settings are now in. Apparently O2 don't provision the mobile.o2.co.uk APN on PAYG accounts because of the potential to run up massive bills. Was worth a try though, and at least i know how to do it now.
Thanks again |

Bit of an old thread, but i'll drag it up anyway.
Using both the settings mentioned above and the o2 connect of there website, i have managed to browse the web on my ipaq using the free gprs access. However on my phone, there is no gprs logo, and the data counter isn't going up either. Can anybody explain how this is working?
Also after being on the web for a while it will start bringing up error messages like, cannot find page.
