What I actually want to do is send email via my pop3 settings over a GPRS data connection. I have a working GPRS data connection for WAP but if I add a pop3 account and use the GPRS data connection then I get 'server cannot be found'.

If I setup a manual dial up with the same service provider (BT) and use a BT GSM connection I get the same problem 'server cannot be found'.

I have tried using a number of different pop3 accounts with the GPRS connection (that I know works for wap) and they all fail with that same error message.

I have added in an o2 DNS server and tried changing the smtp and pop servers to IP addresses rather than DNS names. Same error.

I have tried using the SE WAP configurators to send settings and they fail with the same error message.

I have validated the pop3 settings via a webmail client but I absolutely know them by heart.

What I want to do is a add a known POP3 account and run it over GPRS using smtp.02.co.uk as the SMTP server but I would settle for it working over GSM as a start.

Please can anyone give me any suggestions as I have battled this for three days.

Tried using the configurator on the SE site? http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?template=SP1_3&B=ie&noredir=1&LM=SB_V&noredir=1

Give that a go, I've got my Demon account setup ok.....

This would probably be better in the email forum but anyway....

Who is your service provider and what ISP pop3 server do you want to connect to? I am guessing from the smtp address that you are an O2 customer in which case you will probably have trouble connecting using GPRS. O2 offer to GPRS APNs, a wap one and a data one. By default you will be on the wap APN so in the meantime you will need to connect using a GSM account.
If you are indeed an O2 use then you do not need to put in any DNS servers, simply use the correct IP addresses. The IP address for the O2 SMTP server is 193.113.160.013

Ok. I have my own pop3 account (personal domain) but I have also tested this with my btinternet account as well.

I have setup GPRS wap and also GPRS data (APN=mobile.o2.co.uk)

I add my pop3 account and use either of those data comms and get the same error.

I also get he same error if I use a GSM connection, exactly the same.

The reason I want to use smtp.o2.co.uk is I want to connect with o2 GPRS and you can't use an smtp server of a network you are not connected to (relaying).

Ti summarise, same error regardless of which pop3 account, which GPRS account or GSM account.

Thanks for reply and sorry for cross post.

Well you have an error somewhere. AS far as I am aware O2 do not have support for a customer to use their wap AND data gprs accounts.
I am an O2 PAYG customer and have it setup to access my BT email account. I connect using the +447712927927 gsm wap account (some people use the 95000 number) and then connect to BT mail servers using the IP address 194.73.73.90

Ok

I have set up GPRS data as per white paper on the 02 site.

# GPRS Data
APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
user: 02web
pass: password
DNS: 193.113.200.200

If I set this as the comm account then I get 'Wrong APN name' as well as 'server not found'

If I use the BT pop3 account with the BT GSM dial up I still get the same ****** error.

I have now set up the 91500 o2 Dial up. and tested this with dial up to WAP and it works fine.

If Is et this as the account the email uses, using all IP addresses and no DNS names and still the same error

Ok, so you do not have access to the data APN.
You will have to send and receive your email using the GSM account. As you said you have been able to connect to WAP using it we can assume that it is working correctly.
Could you post all of the data that you are using for your email account, i.e., connect using, protocol, inc.server e.t.c

Regards,

Phil.

P.s. Just to check, are you able to access your email by going to the o2 homepage, clicking email and then btinternet?

Phil

Thanks for bearing with me. I can now connect via the 91500 number (although I need to change this to the one you use so I can use abroad) and access mail.btinternet.com via the IP address you supplied and I can send by entering the IP address for smtp.o2.co.uk which is 193.113.160.13.

This at least means I can send pictures direct by email but what I really want to do is use GPRS as the data connection. I understand from your comments that there is an APN for WAP and one for DATA, the o2 site lists the APN as the one I posted above but that does seem to fail still.

Do you know of anyway you can use GPRS for sending email?

Check this PDF from the 02 website:

http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/mobileweb/pdfs/T68i%20email%20set%20up.pdf

It talks you through setting up a GPRS DATA connection for mobile email on a T68i, I cant imagine it would be different on a T610?

Thanks for the replies, really appreciated.

I have also been through all of their setup guides but you first need to speak to O2 and get your GPRS account changed to a data APN.
I believe that the data support number is 0845 600 6886 and this department should be able to solve your problem much better than the normal CS advisers. Something in the back of my mind though is telling me that only contract users could get switched to the data GPRS account.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Phil.
