Since March 31ts 2003 UK consumer rights haved changed under The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002
If you phone breaks with in 6 months, it is up to the shop to prove it wasn't broken when you bought it. If they cannot they must repair/replace it.
Plus if your phone breaks after a year or even 5 years you could still have the right to a repair.
If the shop you bought it from cliams these regulations do not cover mobile phones they are wrong, and could be breaking the law. If they do this you should report them to Trading Standards

Nice, I get fed up being taken around the houses by mobile phone shops.

that's good to know, kinda makes some of their selling points for insurance a bit pointless!

no.. its still usefull to get insurance. i am not a phone salesman, but its smart money well spent..
I am paying £7 a month for my P800, but the cover includes ALL damage, including me dropping the phone, loosing the phoen etc, all thefts, water damage, and includes also up to £1000 cover for calls made between the phone being stolen and it being reported, and the sim blocked (anything after the sim is blocked is dealt with by the service provider). and they assure they will have me with a phone within 24 hours.
They do have an excess of £25, but thats peanuts compared to the £499 price tag for the P800. Still worthwhile getting insurance.
but where this legislation will really helps is where manufacturers dont honour waranties, or drag tehir feet badly (happend to me with Nokia). You can go back to the shop and demand action. Currently phone shops are more than happy to peddle out some really awefull phones that are full of bugs, and defects, since they can say "not our problems, see the manufacturer". but if they are made to deal with fautls like this, it woudl be intresting to see if they woudl continue to stock known problematic phones!

i used to own a sont z5 which i had for almost 2yrs b4 it fell outta my pocket. for some reason i purchased a samsung t100 bah! anyway when i phoned up the house insurance to insure this new one they told me that the old one was covered already they said they would normally just send out a replacement but as i had a new one they would send me out a cheque for 130quid which is their estimated value of the phone. Guess the moral is check because you could be paying double insurance. ps t100's are awful i have a spanking new t68i now! |
