Hello! First post here!
Sorry if this have been brought up before, and for my bad english.
Anyway, I read the swedish magazine Mobils webpage today and found that it will (according to them) be possible to upgrade the P800 to UIQ 2.1 in april.
It seems that the quality of the pics taken with the inbuilt camera will be improved and that the P800 users probably will be able to upgrade it themselvs over the internet.
Heres a link (swedish): http://www.mobil.se/nyheter/visa.asp?id=6355&sid=1

translation...
In the beginning of April it will be possible to upgrade the firmware on P800. For example it will improve the quality on the images taken with the camera.
Another improvement is the bluetooth. This since there have been problems with connecting bluetooth accessories.
UIQ is the name of the firmware that works together with the operatingsystem SymbianOS. Recently a version of UIQ was released, and it's this version that the P800 users will be able to have in their phones. SonyEricsson will now begin testing the new UIQ. The upgrade will be released in the beginning of April accordning to the source Mobil.se has spoken to.
It's also said that those who have a P800 might be able to upgrade it themselves by downloading the upgrade from the internet.

well i suppose there are flash upgrades for motherboards, cd/dvd writers, and as the phone is connected via usb there is no reason why they shouldnt be able to make an *.exe file to update it is there and doing it that way is gonna save lots of time in man hours getting staff to do it free for you??? |

Ok, here is a translation for you guys. I do my best!
In the beginning of April it will be possible to upgrade the software in the P800.
The update will make the picture quality, taken with the inbuilt camera, better. Another thing that will be proven is the bluetooth. Earlier it has been some problems with connecting other bluetooth-devices.
UIQ is the name of the software that works with the operating system Symbian OS. A new version has just been released and it is this new release the P800-users will use in their phones. Sony Ericsson is now doing some tests of the new version of UIQ. Our sources says that the new software will be avaliable in the beginning of April.
They also says that P800 users might be able to upgrade their phones by their own (downloading an upgrade file from the Internet)
Another article says:
The grafic interface will change.
The biggest difference is the "look" and better sound features.
Game and music functions will be better too. You will also bee able to choose between color schemes, background pictures and so on.
That was about it!
I hope you like this translation! I did my best!
Best regards, Patrik

I KNEW THAT IT IS POSSIBLE! I was wondering about selfupgraiding the p800 after reading the White Paper of P800! There is a sentence about updating over Internet using Sony Ericsson Update Service! Just check my topic-P800 firmware update by yourself? Regards! Peter

Hmm... Did you know that the P800 and in fact all our phones are flashed over the Internet?
Yes. The workshops have special cables and security Smart Cards, but the software download is controlled by an Internet server.
Using a Data cable or the Cradle is probably not very different from the workshop equipment. Except if something goes wrong you are REALLY REALLY Screwed! I have flashed 2 Siemens phones and one of them was OK, the other one got f**ked up. |
