Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge Android update tipped to deliver camera enhancements

For as important as it is that a flagship smartphone is able to impress out of the box, that’s just part of the phone’s software story, and in the months that follow any major release, we look forward to seeing the little tweaks a manufacturer delivers via software updates. Maybe those mean fixing some annoying launch-day issues, or activating features that just weren’t quite ready to go in time for retail sales. Lately we’ve been seeing a few phones pick up some new camera tricks from such updates, and the next on that list might just be the Galaxy S6, as we hear a little about what may be in store for a future Android 5.1.1 update.

While supposedly the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge alike are both on tap to receive a souped-up camera in Android 5.1.1, as of now we haven’t picked up on too many details about just what that might mean. One theory suggests Samsung could make the pair fully compliant with the Google Android camera API, opening up new manual controls and shooting modes, but that’s just speculation for now.

One interesting component to this rumor is that it claims that whatever these forthcoming camera enhancements are, we can also expect them to eventually also come to the Samsung Zen and Noble – those two are codenames we first heard last week, rumored to be the Galaxy Note 5 and some sort of new Galaxy S6 spin-off.

We don’t yet have a firm idea on an ETA for when this update might be ready, but seeing as there’s already been early evidence of 5.1.1 updates (though without this camera stuff), here’s hoping it won’t be too much longer.
