So it seems there is an OLED 4k screen at 6 inches, but it seems to be a prototype for now.

Would be nice for sony to use a 4k OLED but I doubt this will be in production anytime soon.
I'd rather we have a surprise for the new phones and not a complete leak like the note 5 and edge 6+ had. |

Wasn't referring to any specific model in my post, just said it would be nice for sony to use the oled 4k 6 inch screen. I believe the 4k sharp screen was discussed here before anything from weibo was posted, after maloqs posted the resolution, it was speculated on here by many that only the sharp screen could be used. For now only rumour, we will know at ifa perhaps. |

Again? Why they can't just promote sRGB scale? Because it's the only one that matters... |

^ How do you know they're not promoting it? The phone is not even released |

Here is that sharp 5.5" 4k display that weibo user is claiming to be in z5+ (if that is what he meant)
while as we discussed a report mentioned it is scheduled for mass production only in 2016 and other mentioned end of 2016 and that is only just mass production of panel units, not in smartphones in store. sounds unlikely. |

What advantage does 4k offer? |

Only benefit would be in combination with a VR headset |

Aside of the unknown, subtle increase in sharpness.
Apparently the human eye can notice a difference but it supposed to be subtle.
In terms of battery life qualcomm claim that there is almost no difference between qhd and uhd resolution.
I'm sure sony knows what they are doing and knowing them i have a sense that battery life and performance will be fine somehow. Their only mistakes when it comes to spec were those stupid shatter films and z1 unlikable non ips display. Optimistic view here. |

Seems like the phone will render everything at 1080p then upgrade with x reality engine. 4K native display will only be used when you replay your 4K recorded videos and looking at photos. 3GB LDDR4 seems like it won't be enough, 4K frame buffer alone require much more memory than FHD. Still don't know how they are going to deal with the heat issue with S810 honestly. |
