Makes sense for this to be the T4 ultra, the more affordable phablet option once the z ultra arrives. Wonder if the launch will be at IFA or it will be an online launch.

If what you say make sense then the next ultra would have 5.5", but it is rumored to have 6". this is also why sony called t2 "ultra", t3 just t3, etc...

The reason I said it makes sense is that the E55xx is supposed to slot into the T3 spot, but grow into a phablet.

But there is a problem with the rumoured 5.5 screen, while bigger than the T3, it is the same size as the current C4, which except for the design, is the same as the supposed T4 ultra. Unless I am reading these specs wrong.

http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_c4-7227.php

compared to E55xx:
MediaTek MT6752 chipset @ 1.7 GHz
2-gigabytes of RAM
13-megapixels of primary camera
also dual sim capable
1080p 5.5 inch

Maybe I missed something, but the main basic specs seem identical, perhaps the T4 ultra is water resistant? From the leaked photos, it also seems to feature a large selfie cam with flash in the front. So I feel the specs on the website are wrong, and the screen size can still be 6 inches, if not 6 then perhaps 5.7 inches. Yes the C4 and T4 would look different design wise but I thought Sony was trying to minimize their mid-range lineup and not release almost identical phones.

As for the new Z ultra, or whatever it will be called, should be bigger than the main Z model. If the main remains at 5.2 inches, then a 5.7-6.0 Z ultra would be fine but if the main moves up to 5.4-5.5 like the LG G4, then the new Z ultra should be at least 6.0 inches I feel. But this is just my thoughts.

Yeah, well, confusing rumors about this lavender device. lets say the spec is correct then t4 fits the most. there is no other way they could name it without confusing consumers. most likely online announcement as with most low-mids.

Whether main has 5.2 or 5.5, i think a lesson that all manufacturers learned is that a phablet flag should not pass the 6" display for the sake of fitting in as many human pants side pockets as possible. designing a device to be widely fitted only in a jacket or a purse can not carry the titles phablet flag, smartphone or daily driver. it would be a tablet with phone capabilities. aka, z ultra.

New note 5 is expected to have a 5.67 inch screen, so 5.7 would be a nice sweet spot for the new ultra. Honestly hope Sony does not increase the flagship's screen above the 5.2 on the current Z4.

If the Z5 will use the Y concept from here, then perhaps the lavender might be hint of the edge to edge screen with minimal bezel. 5.2 inches with edge to edge, could mean a smaller device but I am not holding my breath on this one.

anything less than 6" is a disgrace for a Z ultra successor.

and that is a good thing for sony and almost all consumers if not all. they want to appeal to as much people as possible, not for some bunch of hardcore mobile geeks/women who would carry a huge block in a jacket or a bag all the time. they want to target iphone 6s plus, note 5, lg next phablet, not some negligible chinese tablets with phone capabilities. they want profit in 2016. the majority of people who are looking for more then 6" display are going to buy a tablet anyway. i never read or hear of people who demand 6.44" display phone. on the other hand, i read and hear many people demand sony to make a flag phablet that sony never made. "next time equip the ultra with a flag camera, make the device smaller" etc. as ascariss wrote, 5.7 is kind of a sweet spot, though up to 6 should be acceptable by many people who are intending to carry such device in a side pants pocket.

It's not a Sony rumour.. but it might give us a glimpse on 820 if it was true

The last year king of the AnTuTu benchmark was Meizu MX4, followed by Nexus 6, but Samsung Galaxy S6 took over the crown this year scoring 68,157. Although we are still pretty far away from Nexus 5 (2015) launch, first results show astonishing performance in AnTuTu.

The smartphone scored 85,530, which is by few thousands better score than on any available smartphone right now. If the result is true, then we can only assume that Nexus 5 (2015) is powered by the upcoming Qualcomm's flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 820.

We already saw some Snapdragon 820 benchmarks, which weren't that impressive, but lets wait for new details and hope this AnTuTu score is real.

The size was an aspect at the beginning but the S-pen is the main lure I feel, and now the better multi-window app support.

Note 1 - 5.3
Note 2 - 5.5
Note 3 - 5.7 FHD
Note 4 - 5.7 QHD
Note 5 - 5.67 QHD

Sony can go larger but only if the dimensions of the phone don't go out of whack and make it bulky, but it seems 5.7 is a nice sweet spot for a phablet.

As for the new nexus benchmark, it's running on FHD versus the S6 at QHD, I feel this could make a difference in the benchmark, unless the test is scaled to 1080p or something? Hopefully more 820 benchmarks leak and at least one new sony device before ifa.

which shows that features matter more than just the size.

as long as Sony can reduce bezel/thickness and fit larger screen, why not.

If the next ultra sell as half as the note line then i think sony will bless god as it would be a progress in the right direction. they would never appeal to as much consumers as possible in regard to a phablet size with a 6.44" display most likely not even with smaller bezels then what z ultra has.
@ascariss
Yes, but specifically the height which counts the most when you carry a smartphone in the pants pocket. this should be another reason for why sony want to change their design from thinness to thickness with smaller top and bottom bezel. nexus 6 comes to mind but sony can design one in sony own unique design, much better then what motorola is capable of.
