Wow!!! what a "big" upgrade!!
I guess only SS did their homework this year
Hopefully, this "Z4" will be only for the Japanese market and their new Global flagship should be around IFA

^ The all metal body xperia would be the z5 I guess and would be reveal at ifa. What were they thinking? They decresed the battery capacity with each upcoming flagship

^^I think it might be better for them to get rid of the Z-series flagship. They just add some "major" upgrade and call it a Z4?. Idk about you guys, but it makes me feel sick.
Enough with 2 flagships per year with minor upgrades
Every time, when I was about to buy their new "Z-flagship", then news about better hardware began to flow.... I ended up waiting again.
They introduces new devices and it takes months for it to come out. I hope after this "Z4", they should start to rethink about their naming strategy. Its not helping at all but confusing the consumers, I tried to persuade my friends and family to try their smartphone but most of them could not recognize which "Zs" should they buy....
I'm starting to lose hope in Sony Mobile already. Only their PlayStation department is doing well atm, they delivered what I want rather than confusing me with too many "flagship"
Edit: Sorry for whining in here guys, I just want them to do something radical rather than disappointing me most of the time

i clearly understand, this might explain the rumor why Sony is starting a new name with the Z5 and onwards. I used to own a "Z" and recently bought a "Z3" because the Z died and Z3 was cheap, im still waiting for Z5.
The reason behind why they fail and why they do this is simple. First off, the market has Apple and Samsung with their naming scheme up to 5 and 6, on the other hand, theres Sony, it would take them years to catch up to where Apple and Samsung is, therefore they sped up the process by introducing 6 months cycle, hoping they could flood the market and generate awareness, targeting on NEW consumers. However, the down side is that the CURRENT consumers (which is us the fan bois) are not feeling satisfied. Lets be honest here, when i had the Z, every time i see a new Z is announced i feel like it was nothing in compared to the previous. CURRENT consumers think as if they already own one previous generation before the new one. ie. You own a Z, Z3 gets announced, you feel nothing major upgrade from Z2. You put yourself in the shoes of a Z2 owner therefore you did not make the purchase of Z3 when clearly you own a Z.
The thing is, majority of the "buyers" i would assume are new customers, but at the same time, there is a significant amount of buyers who are also current customers, and that is us.
if they do ditch the Z naming scheme, i dont mind, but i hope they do it right this time. though i dont really like a full metal construction. I used to own Xperia T (full metal) and it felt really bad. hate the metal feel. anyway...

Perhaps Z4 is only for japan because in japan every 6 months every japanese smartphone company will release a new flagship. Z5 for the rest of the world  (hope so)

Now let me get my hands on the people (especially) on the xda forum and vizileaks claiming "u are all wrong, my sources are right! It will be called the Z3 neo!"... They were soooo 1000% sure about that.... And it turned to be so false...

Well, actually this is the biggest internal update since the Z1, atleast on paper. If this thing isn't exclusive to Japan, then we have finally 32 GB ROM and a CPU, which isn't just a slightly tweaked 800 processor again. The problem is the 810 has got a bad reputation and that's not without a good reason. This and the design evolution, which is also comparable with the CPUs of the Z2 and the Z3 in terms of progress, leads to the mixed reception. The six-month product cycle, respectively the naming scheme plays its part too.

From design perspective, it's very good, it resembles how Z series should look like from long time ago...
but spec. wise... it's late a little bit

Agree, but that still was a rumour after all, specially with Sony habit of having different naming in different markets.. thought I don't remember ever having a completely new generation in a market (Z4 Japan) while having just a newer version in other markets (Z3 Neo in other markets)
But, we know that naming is the very last step in a product life, and might change any time before the launch...

So, the all-metal futuristic Z5 at IFA? If so, the 820 would be out of question I think, as I would only expect it at the earliest at MWC. Seems only to make sense, if the Z4 isn't available worldwide. At the same time, how does it make sense to call this Z4, if it's only for Japan? As Z1 Compact -> Z3 Compact or Z2 Tablet -> Z4 Tablet isn't enough of skipping already, are they now even doing it with the main flagship? The naming scheme would become an even bigger mess, if that's even possible at his point.

Also, Leaving big bezels like that is not helping at all
The leaked image of the C4 or Cosmos even has much better bezel

With regards to bezels, shave 5mm from the total height of the device (146mm) and it'll satisfy the needs of most users here.
For comparison, S6 is 143mm and recently announced Huawei P8 is 144mm. |

The rumors were true aside of minor negligible inaccuracies (z4 and not z3 neo).
now we can expect the big update flags for 100% for ifa announcement and q4 launch. sony just confirmed it.
Regarding Z4, what catch my eyes is that overheating restriction in 4k recording is a thing of the past. watch this 10 min 4k recording: Link text...

Do you follow this rumors thread? a source informed a few months ago that sony decided to change strategy to one flag per year after they already worked on z4 and they wanted to please the japanese carriers who always ask for a new flag every half a year. today sony just confirmed it with this z4 announcement. the q4 main flag should be the first one year flag. one source says the naming will change completely meaning no "z" and no "5".
