aren't imx3xx for cameras only? could it even fit inside a smartphone chassis? doubtful rumor.

Checking Sony's site yields
http://www.sony.net/Products/SC-HP/IS/sensor2/index.html

IMX377 type 1/2.3 so same as current, but it is slated for cameras and not mobile, so not sure how likely as amirprog pointed out but a 1/2.3 could fit as a sensor.
-12.35MP
-4K2K 60fps
-Exmor R
-1080 @120fps
-720 @ 300fps

can't find any info if it has phase detection or just contrast. The pixel size is 1.55um vs 1.12um on the new imx230. It would let more light in and should give less noise, less MPs on the same sized sensor as IMX220. Question remains, why develop a new sensor with PDAF and not use it in your own device. Regardless, now more and more rumours will appear, no doubt some orchestrated from Sony in order to create confusion.

Sony introduced 2 new compact cameras this past week so the notion of Sony killing off their compact business to focus only on smartphones with great cameras is not happening for now. They all feature NFC, so you can control them via a phone. There is also the QX lineup, Sony has mentioned in the past these are great accessories to use to get superior image quality, but until the connection and lag is fixed, I can't see myself getting one, although Sony has been surprised by their popularity and sales.

I wouldn't mind Sony trying to cram in a real bionz processor into the next xperia, heat will be a problem, but perhaps the metal design would dissipate it faster?

Remains to be seen if all these rumours are true. Will it debut in Q3 after IFA or will it be Q1 2016, maybe Sony has moved that phone up to Q3 2015 and ditched the SD820 for revised SD810, who knows. Another option might be Qualcomm has opted to ditch the SD810 and move up the production of the SD820 for a Q3/Q4 availability date in order to win back the market? All speculation on my part but it would be the best move for them, they lost a lot of sales with Samsung going for their own chip.

Anyone know if the Zeiss name and lenses are still exclusive to Nokia/microsoft? Would be awesome for Sony to use it on their smartphones finally.

I doubt that they would go back to 12 megapixels but that 1.55um would sure make the image quality better especially in low-light

The sensor is slated for digital still cameras and not mobile. I do not believe Sony would use a 1/2.3 sensor in a low-mid phone, too large, more like 1/3, which is the size in the IP6, perhaps apple will go for 1/2.8 next time but no idea.

Vizileaks is sometimes contradicting himself:

Your argument is weak imo and i find very little reason to agree. s820 alone is a bad reason to delay a flag by half a year considering that sony is bleeding and may not survive another year, z3 and z3c with s801 sold great and had a great reception despite weak marketing and carrier availability, s805 devices have not sold more because they have it but because manufacturers advertise them, put them in a lot of carriers, etc, sony did not put much efforts in this coming "weak spec" small update flag so you are actually contradicting yourself, and they can't rely on it to survive until next year q2-3 launches, we don't know if there won't be a newer s810.
It is important to announce flags at a mobile show so you get the most coverage by the media and you have something to show against your competitors, for these reasons basically no manufacturers likely to announce mobile flag at ces. sony is not likely to go back to their own conferences, there is no hint for that. they are likely to announce the 3 devices at ifa and not delay them because as i wrote above this relatively "weak spec" update wont carry them until q2-3 next year. it even has the same number as last year - 3, so it would be a terrible idea anyway in terms of consumers reception that expect something newer this year.
we care here about the list of improvements i listed above more then s820 and i have no doubt that sony and qualcomm will work together to fix s810 for q4 launches so they will be as competitive. read this whole thread. people are bitching here day and night about weak camera software, old camera hardware, no new design, no new true flag phablet, etc. if sony does not offer a new flag in main, compact and phablet people here and anywhere are going to jump ship to note 5, lg coming note rival, s6, chinese flag devices, etc. and even to iphone 6s/6s plus i bet. for sony there may not be next year.

1. SD820 is a huge reason to delay next flagship because it's going to make a huge difference in overall performance. There won't be newer 810, Qualcomm is focusing on 810's replacement - 820. Z3 was selling nicely because it could keep up with another 2014 flagships, SD805 wasn't a big upgrade plus it's available only in a couple of large phablets (Note 4, Nexus 6), not Z3 competitors.
2. "Weak spec" update doesn't have to lasu until Q2/Q3 2016 but Q4 2015/Q1 2016. That's doable. Qualcomm doesn't have to fix SD810 for Q4 launch, SD820 should be almost ready. It just makes more sense to wait for 2 months instead of putting old SoC and stay behind all competitors released just a few months after (at MWC). By the way, there are two versions: release Z4 at IFA with SD810 or Q4 2015/Q1 2016 with SD820.
3. Sept. Z4 wouldn't be much different than "weak spec" update and it just couldn't be competetive for another year. And that's important - numbers do matter.
4. I know people are complaining about other things in Sony's flagships, that's because hardware was always fine. SD810 is a failure (even HTC failed to control it) and it would be another reason to complain.

@penguino
for 1 and 3 and 4. As i wrote, there are more advantages to launching in q4 then delaying and i listed why. they can sell very good without s820 and even more with better marketing and carrier availability. if q4 flags wont have s820 so then their competitors wont have it either - so they are all "even" unlike last year and as i wrote a cpu alone don't make or break a flag when considering the other factors - the overall features of it and much more then the actual device itself, hence, your argument failed imo. and even if s820 won't be available in time sony could get revised s810. and what if some manufacturers announce their flag at mwc with s820? nothing wrong here because it is a different time frame. technology will always advance and no manufacturer can stop others from it. it surely won't keep consumers away from buying the q4 flags. a manufacturer that release their flag once a year could never care about that because they make it count and worth buying - a bigger update. one of the criticism about sony is that they could invest more in a once a year flag and in its marketing and price drop instead of releasing it every half a year and that half a year also creates negativity in the mind of consumers who don't feel they have the latest and greatest.
2. z3neo as small update and won't help sony battle note 5, iphone 6s, etc. let alone, carry them until a q2-3 new flag launch. sony wouldn't announce any smartphone flag at ces for reasons i listed above. hence, your suggestion is unrealistic.

i would agree with you if sony put all their efforts and made the z3neo a z4/5 (or with a new letter) with more change in design, new sensor, etc. but it is simply not the case.

imo, a good idea would be to divide their main and compact announcements from a phablet one like for example, what samsung is doing with s and note for ifa and mwc time frame, but they already ignore the phablet market from a year ago and already postpone a new main announcement because of a strategy change from mwc to q4 (remember z3neo is supposedly a small update) so i can't see how they would benefit more from a further delays. they just can not have the luxury or in a status of delaying anything more then what they already have done. they definitely need to shake things up asap or they may be out of the game.

if this turns out to be true, it'll explain the delay. I like it so far.

These are way too conceptual. What is Y?
Are they going for X Y Z series. Cool.

By the way circle button is the best.
