The spyware wasn't exactly spyware.

Sony uses Baidu for location purposes, much like it uses Google in the west. It is used as part of the myxperia app with which you can locate your phone if it gets lost.

The data is stored on servers which are located in China, probably for cost reasons. So it seems like it's a false alarm or nothing sinister anyway.

Hmmm. It's the simplistic dismissals like this that continue to contribute to Android's overall lack of personal end user security and why it's taken SO LONG for the OS to have encryption turned on by default - late builds of 4.4 onward and by default across ALL builds of 5.x on-ward.

'Nothing to hide' is the typical dismissal mantra .. until your back accounts have transactions or payments of pennies here and there occur at what you may think is random so as not to notice and occuring more often than not over weeks, months and years. You DO remember that commercial where that nerdy guy for software for a US bank is disguised as some sexy woman - with an erily spoken voice about having serious dollars and building a fancy sex robot?

Now imagine those pennies across MILLIONS of device users ... that adds up VERY quickly.

This folder will be removed in future software updates for the phone. Until then I can only advise that you delete it manually after a reboot if you want to remove it. It’s safe to just delete it.”

&

Sony needs to communicate how this app appeared in the first place and to reveal what information is being gathered.

Android 5 is appealing to me along with this device VERY much but now I'm at a halt, yet again. My hard earned dollars and my rights to my privacy - regardless of having anything stolen or having anything to loose is my right. Take one right away ... when will it stop?! The way I see Google making hand over fist of crazy look for data WE as end users create for them to SELL .... end users SHOULD be financially compensated!!!

Really enjoying this handset. Its handled everything i've thrown at it without issue and to treat it, i've just installed the Rhinoshield back & front films. The feel is very good and the quality is quite superb (well, for the price it ought to be!).

Bono, if you have concerns on the power output dock, pick yourself a cheap multimeter/amp meter and put it across the outputs. You should see the same values using either cable if used on the same mains adaptor. Does the cable get warm to the touch overnight?

That's cool! Wish the exposure time can be longer though, it seems 1 sec is its maximum.
