I am finding if using the stereo speakers that turning down the bass to almost zero and turning off clear audio makes the speakers sound better. They have more clarity and less of a woolly sound because of the speaker waterproof membranes they tend to vibrate the chassis a little so turning down that bass helps. Just turn it back on with headphones 😉 Loving this phone now just those speakers are not a patch on HTC M8 I have to admit

I got the green Z3C (D5803) today in the mail. I purchased it from a seller off of Newegg for $516 including free shipping. I waited to see when/if Sony would post it, but no matter now - I still got it cheaper and it's already in my hands. I wanted the green color anyway, which I think is going to be the hard one to get.

When I was in the UK for work in late January/early February I got the Z1C when it came out and there was no talk of it being released by Sony here in the US (which did happen). It's been a good phone - no major complaints for the most part. I've been using it with T-Mobile here in the USA. Depending on where I am it ranges from 3G/HSPA to 4G, so anyone worried that the Z1C won't work on T-Mobile in the USA should have no worries.

I need to go to T-Mo to get a new SIM card for the Z3C so I can actually get it working as a phone, but outside of that, it's all set up and ready to go. I used the Xperia Transfer app and it actually worked. I'm used to these things being a 50/50 proposition, but all my pics, messages, etc., went over without a hitch.

So why did I get the Z3C when I already have the Z1C? First and foremost, better band coverage for here in the US - especially on T-Mo. While the 700 spectrum isn't everywhere yet, better to have it than not. Since I travel a lot for work, in the event I need to get a local SIM card, chances are this phone will work wherever I am. Check.

I also liked the green a bit better in terms of look, same size phone, as good if not better battery, and a bigger screen (albeit .1") were all draws. There are a few things I've noticed in the short time I've had the Z3C:
1. The camera button is slightly bigger on the Z3C. One of my gripes with the Z1C is it was hit or miss in use or to start the camera. It was very fiddly.
2. The volume rocker is flat and sticks up a bit more, whereas on the Z1C it is bit longer but concave. In theory better, but in reality, I find it better on the Z3C.
3. The flaps which house the USB port, SD card, and SIM seem better. It's easy in the right situation to flip them open on the Z1C.
4. Yes, the body of the Z1C is metal/aluminum (whatever) and the Z3C is mainly plastic and glass for the screen BUT it feels better in the hand. It does NOT feel cheap. The rounded contours of the sides make it surprisingly easier to hold than the Z1C. Sounds stupid, but after nearly 10 months with the Z1C, I notice the difference.
5. The Z3C feels a bit lighter and more balanced to hold as well.
6. That .1" doesn't seem like it'd make a big difference in display size, but it does. It's noticeable as someone who has used the Z1C quite a lot.
7. The display - outside of size - seems to be better on the Z3C.

Once I get that SIM card I can put it through some paces, but so far, so good. The subtle differences I've found are an improvement. For some, they wouldn't be enough of a difference over the Z1C, and I get that. The Z1C is a great phone, but assuming the performance is as good as if not better, I won't miss the Z1C. Mine will most likely be up for sale soon.

Dock just arrived, thankfully now more flap-fiddlin.

I really wanted the one with the built in speaker but I couldn't justify the price. Not yet anyway.

Are you sure that Z3C (USA variant) has the 700Mhz (band 12 LTE)? I thought it wasn't mentioned anywhere (see this discussion: http://forum.xda-developers.c[....]/z3c-t-mobile-t2866957/page2), and T-mobile only getting the Z3 (full size), which will have that band. The unlocked variant of either one doesn't have it (wish I was wrong though).

LTE 700Mhz doesn't neccesarily mean band 12 which T-mobile USA plans on rolling out. From Sony Z3Compact Whitepaper (page 5):
http://dl-developer.sonymobil[....]3_Compact_D5803_D5833_WP_1.pdf

Networks:
D5803 UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 20)

LTE 700 Bands: 12,13,14 and 17

700Mhz LTE bands: http://www.awt-global.com/resources/700-mhz-band-plan/

Even if it's not going to be the right 700 spectrum (and you're right, it looks to be Band 13, not 12), it's a better phone. Plus I get 800 (not in the Z1C), which is better for being outside the USA anyway where that's supported.

I'm not terribly worried. The Z1C has worked well on T-Mo, I don't expect the Z3C to be worse.

You can also turn the S-Force front surround on (Settings->Sound->Audio settings->Sound effects->S-Force front surround)

Battery getting better everyday,24h and still 75% left.

How's your screen at 21%?? Mines at the top but I do use highest brightness though. I hate using anything but on smartphones as I find have such a beautiful screen on a phone is wasted on low to medium brightness.
