Nice photos.. a bit artificial looking overall, but nice colors and low noise for the most part.

OK its my day off work and I'm board so what I've done is made a list of phones which have the same resolution and a quad core CPU and still currently available to buy but have a variance in screen size. I've used the GSM arena battery test as a yardstick.

Samsung S5 mini -2100mAh battery - 4.5" display - 72h rating
Samsung S3 - 2100mAh battery - 4.8" display - 50h rating
HTC One Mini 2 - 2110mAh - 4.5" display - battery 50h rating
Sony Xperia T2 Ultra - 3000mAh 6.0" display - battery 96h rating
Sony Xperia Z1C - 2300mAh - 4.3" display - battery 65h rating
Motorola Moto G - 2070mAh battery - 4.5" display - 54h rating

As you can see the performance in battery life is quite varied, I would expect the Galaxy Alpha to perform very similar to the S5 mini given the fact that the screen is a little brighter, 0.2" larger and the battery is a little bit smaller (240mAh less) but has a more energy efficient CPU. I know this is quite a vague way of guessing the battery life but if it falls short of the S5 mini I would call the battery life average at best considering the new superior CPU. All current flagships which the Alpha is should have very good battery life but I know Samsung will be marketing this for people who just wan't something that looks good and can take a good selfie and not really care much about battery performance.

Samsung look set to launch a variant of the Galaxy Alpha with the SD801 the same CPU found in the S5. It looks like it is only heading to Asia at the moment. Here in the UK at least we've only had Samsung devices with a SD CPU, maybe that's why Samsung haven't released a full spec page on the official website yet. Could the SD 801 be heading to other countries/regions as well.

Actually only the tab pro 8.4 (which they are now in the process of taking it out of the market) is sd powered, the tab pro 10.1,12.2 and note 10.1 (2014) are all exynos

Anyway for what is worth I doubt many people care whether they are exynos or sd

This is exactly the sort of thing I was talking about WRT Samsung and last minute changes in a previous page.

With Samsung you need to wait until the official roll out plan is released a week or so before release, I know even with the Note 4 we are going to see the unveiling at IFA and Samsung will leave us in limbo WRT what country gets what CPU or if all get the same CPU, memory variants by region etc etc... for quite a while until close to release.

We all knew the Galaxy Alpha will be an expensive phone (for what it is) it will be more expensive the the Galaxy S5 and Apple iPhone 5S according to a UK retailer with monthly plans to get the handset free starting from around £40 per month. It isn't even a good plan offering unlimited calls & text but only a measly 1GB of data VIA the o2 network.

I know the iPhone 6 is just around the corner and so is the Xperia Z3C, I would expect the iPhone 6 to be priced similar to this with the Z3C being a bit cheaper. Personally I can't wait for all 3 to head to head in the reviews and see which comes out on top.

Even if the ip6 looses in online reviews, it will still sell more than both the alpha and the z3c combined Apple makes a good product, its hard to argue that, and they get corresponding sales for it.

The alpha is great by the way.. the best sam device since the gs2, I just wish it had an SD card slot.

@cu015170 I completely agree with you, the iPhone 6 will sell in bucket loads as they always do and with Samsung's advertising budget it will be hard for the Z3C to get noticed so it will be down to the reviews and they have to have availability very soon after launch if Sony wan't to make the Z3C a success.

^ Sony have been doing very well in terms of speed to launch lately, no ? Samsung marketing budget is huge because they save tons of money on their displays.. take a look at this:

^The Z2 was hampered by a component shortage and was late to market in comparison to M8 and S5, Sony was ready to challenge Samsung in Europe and honestly thought they could get a big chunk of their sales with the Z2
