Thank you everybody for the votes for the previous shootout!

The "selfie" is a relatively new phenomena in the photography world, so I thought we should engage as well.

I will change it up a bit which will give us a bit more flexibility.

1. You don't need to hold the camera, it can be placed on anything.. tripods, cars, etc. We won't have a way to verify that someone else didn't take a photo of you, but we will just have to trust that you are going to be honest about it.

2. You can use mirrors, or any other reflective surface such as water, metal, etc.

3. You can hold the phone yourself, of course.

4. You don't have to show your face, if you don't want to. As long as you are in the picture, no matter how, it qualifies.

There aren't very many examples on Esato, but here are a few

taken by Sassho

taken by Halbercone

There are plenty of examples if you just look up selfie on bing/google

Good luck!

•Photo must be taken by the person entering

•Photo must be taken in this month, MAY

•Upload the photo to the Esato's photo gallery

•Post processing is not allowed. Someday it will. BUT NOT NOW.

•It's allowed to change your photo ONCE!

•Please don't delete your photo. It doesn't make sense. An empty square is not funny. The spirit of the competition dies right there. If you want add a watermark, but please don't delete it.

^^TOTAL SARCASM^^

I've been told by the FCC here in the states that I'm no longer permitted to posted images of myself as they are too offensive.... further violations will result in a lifetime ban from the interwebs.... gonna have to sit this one out I'm afraid!

On a serious note though, there are more people, who don't want their photos on the internet, I've never posted any pics of hubby, friends, family or myself on Twitter, here, or anywhere else on the www.

I knew this might not suite everybody because of privacy, but there is a sense of community here so I thought it will be okay.

And I will add this to the original post, but you don't have to show your face You could be walking away, or profile.. hats/sunglasses.. or even your shadow As longs as you are in the picture somehow, it would satisfy the spirit of the rules.

Of course it's okay, no theme ever will be for everybody and a lot of people like posting selfies on Twitter, Facebook, etc.,

Oh, and btw, congrats with your win, stunning photo!

For those who do not wish to post a photo of themselves will a willing participant be an allowable substitute assuming they themselves took the photo (hence selfie) and it was composed and directed by the entrant.

i.e. Can I tell my wife/girlfriend how to pose, set the lighting then leave her with the camera and use the result as my own entry this month? Or must it be a photo I took of myself?

Obviously family appropriate photos only for those who have active imaginations of wife and/or girlfriends.

Also, by definition and by the OP rules, is there a limit to the number of people in a 'selfie'?
I have a dig bick

I'm afraid that picture would be your wife's selfie, not yours, so I don't think it would be valid, you have to be in the picture yourself, somehow, hence "selfie"

Suppose this would only be valid, if your wife signs up as a member here, and then posts it as her own entrance.....

It is stated very clear that the member has to be in the photo. The shootout is about members taking pictures. Therefore you have to make a picture of yourself, that is a selfie.

Thanks!

And yeah.. different people would be more comfortable with this than others, I just hope we get a decent amount of photos to look at.

The photo must be of yourself, and you need to be the only person involved in taking it. Can't use someone else as a living tripod either lol

Its essentially a self-portrait, but no necessarily a hand held one.
