That 10x optics is just a bottleneck, the sensor could be better off coupled with a shorter zoom and constant aperture lens like for example 24-72 F2.8 equivalent. In all fairness though it looks great from the back (I'm liking that texture finish Samsung is using on their new generation galaxies, The front face could use some fresher design

Of course you'll like it.
If Samsung launch a Xperia Z2 only with Samsung name printed magically you'll change your mind.

and its so funny how Samsung goes back to Sony's BSI sensor for its Camera centric smartphone instead of using its own ISOCELL
i think samsung knows ISOCELL is a pure Crap against Sony's BSI

Doesn't developing a sensor take a very long time and a lot of resources? It's taken Samsung quite sometime to develop the ISOCELL for the Galaxy S5 and I doubt the ISOCELL is yet at a point where it meets the requirements for what they wanted in the Galaxy K Zoom including build cost. We will see the ISOCELL make a return in the Note 4, it seems they are keeping the ISOCELL for their flagships, which makes sense, it was probably much cheaper to just buy a Sony sensor rather than develop a whole new sensor for what is at the end of the day a mid end phone with an optical zoom camera. Just makes logical sense.

that does not make sense. the ISOCELL sensor is already available. they no longer have to develop anything. the technology already exists. it's even going to be more cost efficient if they use it in more products to spread the R&D costs associated with it. i'm not really sure but based on the sample photos released on mobile-review.com, the S5 photos look better than that of K Zoom's (without pixel peeping). it's a different story when you look into the full resolution crops.

also, wouldn't it be better for the samsung brand to use isocell in their top cameraphone since they are also aiming at selling mobile camera sensors? they're sending the wrong message in ditching isocell for their supposedly best cameraphone.

You're forgetting that the Galaxy K Zoom is a mid end phone at the end of the day, so the way I see it they are keeping ISOCELL for the high end, and probably next year we will see a Galaxy K2 Zoom with ISOCELL, remember even the Galaxy S4 Zoom wasn't given the best optics so Samsung's Zoom series of phones are not their best camera phones, I think their point is the optical zoom capability mainly.

you're forgetting that it's a cameraphone so it should have samsung's best optics. also, as i said, samsung plans to compete with sony as a mobile camera sensor supplier. why should they not make greater use of their homegrown tech?

remember that when the galaxy s4 zoom was released, it had the best camera tech samsung could put in a smartphone. it had the highest MP count (16MP vs 13MP for the flagship s4).

i really have high hopes for this device. i want it to r*pe those awful pureview fanatics. we've seen how galaxy s5 was enough to make them realize that their "physics wins" argument does not apply when their device maker does not know how to make the most of their camera modules.

The K Zoom won't be a patch on the 1020.

Much bigger sensor plus the ability to zoom in 25x after the photo is taken.

25x ?
you do realize this one has a 20.7MP sensor, don't you? that's about half of lumia 1020's. with just a x2 magnification, it can already zoom in to an equivalent amount of detail that the 1020 takes per inch of an image. it can do x10 magnification so that's around 5x the amount of detail per inch compared to 1020's snaps.
we'll see. hopefully, somebody can come up with comparisons soon. with samsung's knack for sharpness throughout a photo, i have more faith that this will produce better results. it's an android device, it can optically zoom, and it has a removable battery. i'm quite sure this will best pureview 808 and 1020.

of course, i know those are old devices but unless nokia/microsoft comes up with new devices, our comparisons will be limited to them.

This K Zoom won't better the 808/1020, that's for sure.

I am right that the 1020 zooms in or can zoom in 25x after the picture was taken and you can reframe and crop.

3x lossless zoom whislt taking pictures, 25x zoom after, plus 4x on 1080p video and 6x on 720p video.

Majority of phones out there have plastic even Nokia. It's just named polycarbonate to make it sound better. From what I have learned that plastic lasts a long time & dents & scratches alot less than metal. Samsung's plastics are actually more durable than you may think. My Note 3 is rock solid & it is not heavy so the lighter it is, the lighter it falls. My brother had a Samsung for 2 years & it never cracked or bent. Yes metal is nice but it doesn't make it any more durable. Samsung had some issues with cracked casings on GS3 etc but that was resolved. Sony had many issues with their glass & plastic. Glass & aluminium fare alot worse in drop tests. I much prefer the plastic Samsung uses now which is no longer glossy

The fact that Nokia, a veteran at building solid phones uses polycarbonate rather than metal in the vast majority of their phones says it all, IMO. The whole plastic vs. metal argument was long settled IMO, metal just complicates everything.

It's their Cameraphone but it doesn't have to have the best optics as it isn't a premium device, Samsung put the point of the K in its name: ZOOM, that's what its about, clearly the ISOCELL camera is either meant for the top end OR due to production issues (remember they had this with S5?) they've decided to go with a Sony sensor in the K Zoom and get production of the ISOCELL ready for Note 4.

Hi Bono. I agree metal/aluminium body not are good for drops , scratch tests , but metal body absolutely necessary for better heat cooling on very powerful android devices. In hands metal body better feeling too.

In terms of IQ, no.

In terms of zooming, yes.

The nokia package is much more compact, hence the zooming ability is not that great. If you look at the size vs. zoom abilities of both devices you might change your mind.

But the 1020 can zoom 25x after photos so surely that's an advantage over the K Zoom?

Have to say though, these shots from the K Zoom are quite good.
