Very interesting, thanks for the reply.

VERY hopeful this means we'll see rapid advances in the mobile camera division. Curved camera sensors are hopefully just the beginning.

Funny enough, this almost makes the Z3x rumours seem more realistic! lol

Here's hoping for a ludicrously good CES and MWC!

You are correct.

Oooh, what a time to be a Sony fanboy

Sony are finally making very well rounded devices with very few flaws, they're pushing for more North American carrier coverage, and a LOT of people are starting to take notice of them.

I do have to wonder about that Z3x though. Early rumours said it would come at the end of next year, and later rumours said early next year. I REALLY want to replace my Z Ultra and the fact that the rumours said this device had a very capable camera have me overjoyed. I know nodarsixar posted his estimations on the Z3x earlier, but anyone else able to chime in on this device for either release date or specs?

Sony will only deliver RX & QX series in the future.

Z3's carema development has been highly involved by Sony's camara department.

Very interesting news. Would you happen to know when they plan to implement this new move? CES or earlier?

I wonder if this could possibly, finally mean we'll see xenon or equivelant flashes on an Xperia device again!

Actually, it has been done for a while. So you won't see any product other than RX & QX any longer.

i hope they continue the compact super zoom line. the wx300 is an impressive shooter with its long battery life and relatively low price.

I cry a little bit inside everytime I think that I didn't get a Z Ultra a year ago.

Buying it now would be silly as it is old hardware coming to the end of it's support cycle, but who knows whether a suitable successor will be come available?

My heart bleeds.
I have a dig bick
You read that wrong

Have faith Ricky D, have faith. If the Z3x is a reality then we could have something amazing to look forward to.

I swear, if they had built the Z3 Compact Tablet with the same camera as the rest of the Z3 lineup then I'd get that as a new phone. I have no fracking idea where I'd put it, but that's a problem for future-vivftp to sort out

I've been rocking my Z Ultra for nearly a year now and to this day I get constant comments about this mammoth beast. My friends with their Note 3's can only look on with amazement at this beauty.

Come on Sony, don't let us down! I know we're still months away from CES and MWC, but if any insiders are out there, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drop a hint or two about the Z3x or any other mammoth phones Sony are planning.

EDIT.

Actually, as I mentioend earlier this rumour about Sony ditching the rest of their Cybershot line-up and transferring those resources to mobile could be VERY big for us as it increases the possibility that the Z3x could actually come with some of those rumoured specs. A xenon flash and curved sensor along would make my pee myself with glee. I'm not sure if they could pull off the rumoured Trimasted OLED display, but even a screen on par with the Z3 would be VERY welcome.

It seems that after every major announcement there's just that little bit more to look forward to for the next one. I love the Z3 family and am encouraging many of my friends to get it, but it's just not for me it seems. Let's hope Sony has a mammoth lineup for CES and MWC planned... especially now that it seems Kaz is taking the reigns for mobile.

I also have a Z Ultra and I'm quite happy with it.
But right now, I really don't know what to do. The promise of a potential Ultra successor is quite sexy but nothing is sure.

Meanwhile, as I'm a big gamer, the Z3 tablet compact with remote play is looking amazing. Nevertheless, I'm not sure to feel comfortable to own that device as my only mobile companion. Perhaps the combo Z3 compact /Z3 tablet compact would do the trick but I hate to multiply the devices when I can have an all-in-one.

Amazing times and future for Sony fans, this is true. But this brings lots of choices and hard decisions

So there you have it.

This will sell as well as the Lumia 1020.

sounds great!
now other companies have a lead to follow.
if they followed sony's lens style cameras / QX series, there's no reason not to do what panasonic has done.
it only takes one brave soul to start a niche/ an innovation worth emulating.

So there you have it.

but 1020 sales aren't that much that's not a flattering comment

Probably worse, since availability is right now limited to France and Germany for this christmas, meaning importing it will be hella expensive. It does run android, cyanogenmod I believe, so it has that over the 1020.

more photos of it here.

I am sure sony could make something like this, and even make it smaller if they wanted to, at 4.7 inches, it is not that large and if Sony decided to use a 5 or 5.2 inch phone with a large 1 inch sensor, it might not have to be as thick.

Depending if sony responds to this, it is in the running for my next phone. Z4 will def not have such a large sensor, here is hoping someone at Sony also had a crazy idea of sticking a 1 inch sensor onto a smartphone, or at least something this thin and just a camera.

I read that this is probably just some throw away device that Panasonic use to get rid of their old 1" sensors that they can't find buyers for. And I sure hope that Sony won't waste their time trying anything like this.

€900

This is an ultra niche "phone" if ever I've seen one.
For heaven's sake it's got an enormous lens bump with a manual control dial...

They took a compact camera and added an SD801 and android.

Pointless device.
