@amirprog

In the tear down of the z3, was there anything on the battery that would indicate wireless charging? Doesn't the battery need some kind of extra coil to charge?

Unless the Chinese version has wireless charging not as a feature.

Isn't the SW3 supposedly going to support wireless charging as well, it would make perfect sense giving the Z3 range this feature it also means that you will have upto 3 different ways ways to charge you Xperia Smartphone, again a link to the number “3“ that was made so obvious in Sony's teaser trailer.

There was no wireless charging coil.

Also the coil wouldn't be directly attached to the battery, more likely on the back cover to maximise charging range.

I don't know if it's a translation difference or if it is intended like this, but in Chinese Sony call the dock charging 'wireless charging'. It's been that way since the original Z.

it is wireless in a way. the only difference will be you have to align the phone in a very specific orientation (such that the contacts meets) to charge the phone with a docking station. you have a little more freedom on the orientation with the current commercialized wireless technologies, but the phone still have to be close to a platform similar to the docking station

sony smartwatch3 and smartband talk
I think it's nice choice to integrate smartwatch with smartband.
Smartband was so useless.

Xperia Z3

As rumors have suggested, Sony will be launching the Xperia Z3 at its press event on Sept. 4, 2014. The device is said to feature very similar specifications when compared to its predecessor. Internally the Z3 will feature a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 and 3GB of RAM. It’s also packing a 5.2-inch triluminos display based on new technology that’s brighter and has a better contrast ratio.

We’ve also heard that the Z3 will feature new software caching enhancements that will keep the device powered for up to 2 days on a single charge. As you would expect from this smartphone line, the Z3 will be IP68 certified. The most interesting fact here is that the Xperia Z3 will initially launch as a T-Mobile exclusive.

Xperia Z3 Compact

Sony will also be announcing the Z3 Compact. This device will feature the same internal specifications (processor and RAM) as the Z3, but will have a 4.7-inch 720 x 1,280 display. It will also feature the same battery enhancements and IP68 certification as the Z3.

Xperia E3

If you’re looking for a smartphone on a budget, Sony’s soon-to-be-announced Xperia E3 may the answer. The E3 will not feature any waterproof certification, but is said to have a 1.2Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1.5 to 2GB of RAM. It also has a 4.8-inch 720 x 1,280 display. The Xperia E3 will be Sony’s low-cost smartphone option and could retail between $200 and $300.

Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact

Finally, Sony will announce the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. This is claimed to be the thinnest and lightest waterproof tablet in the world at just 6.3mm thin. The Z3 Tablet Compact will also feature the same internal specifications (processor and RAM) as the Z3 smartphone, but have an 8-inch 1,080 x 1,920 display

Interesting, had a feeling Sony would combine the smartband to the watch. What surprised me is the android wear OS, I thought Sony would have stuck to their OS, perhaps the android wear OS has been improved or will substantially improve with android L. I would have preferred a circular design from Sony but I guess they are adamant to sticking with a square watch face. If not a circular design, then a curved display like the Gear S from samsung.

IFA feels like it will be the smartwatch show this year with many firms announcing new devices, I am sure Sony's watch will be good but someone will have the top one at IFA, that is until apple announces one. ha

Z3: 8974-AC, new display technology, new software caching enhancements... I'm okay with this .

Z3C: IP68, 3 GB RAM, 720p Display... Dis gon b gud .

E3: Another mid-ranger smartphone, but this one ticks all the right boxes it seems, probably the answer to Moto G/G2, CPU + HD display + RAM are a good combo (especially RAM), hopefully around $250.

Z3TC: Thin, light, same processor and RAM, 8" FHD display (for once I wouldn't be mad about QHD, but never mind)... Shut up and take my money !

PS: Does the Z3C and the Z3TC also have this new software caching enhancements? I would say so.

@detox completely agree with you on the Z3TC, will make a great present this Christmas for a few of my friends and family, I also can't wait for the Z3C, I think this'll be the phone that gets the most attention within the media.

unfortunately, sony prices only become competitively low months after the initial product availability, when they realize they are unable to sell them with the initial prices they set (in the non-asian market).

The Z3 looks like less of a disappointment than I had thought. But personally I am mainly hoping it will make the Z2 a bit less expensive now..
