To the people who wished for JOLED to bring OLED to Xperia: Japan venture aims to begin mass-producing OLED panels in 2018

I think Sony's in house OLED manufacturing is small and LG does not produce small sized OLED panels as far as I know and AUO's plan has been delayed several times. The only hope is Samsung.

P.S. @ itsjustJOH nice find.

So now its clear, sony's new strategy is:
ifa: main, compact, tablet compact.
mwc: main, phablet, tablet.
i don't see them delaying the next phablet for longer then that and sony alpha rumor source says "early 2015".

They talk only about big OLED displays for tablets and TV's. It's still possible that we'll see 5.2 inch WRGB OLED displays from JDI (they showcased prototype last year).

Not impossible but not likely because the market is shifting for qhd ips 5.5" for main flags unless sony is going to do similar mistake as with choosing non ips panels for z1. also, jdi did not announced any plans for qhd oled displays for smartphones. oled is not ready yet unless sony develops purely their own oled panels as z3x rumors suggest.

Really can't wait for IFA now, Sony will have a big presentation on their hand with up to 4 mobile devices possibly being announced, the Z3, Z3C, Z3 Tablet Compact and the SmartWatch 3. If I'm not mistaken this could be the biggest IFA unveiling Sony has had. The Device I'm looking forward to most is the Z3C and the new Tablet. I just keep thinking what will be the stand-out feature of the phones be though, my guess is wireless charging considering the SmartWatch 3 is rumoured to carry this feature. Only time will till and not long to go till we officially find out.

The phone looks ok just the fact it has no top bezel would make it hard to hold in landscape view while watching a video as part of your hand is likely to cover part of the display. It would of looked better if the bezel was equal at top and bottom giving it a more balanced look.

PS Are we likely to see the Z3 and Z3C use the new IPS-Neo display ? It went into mass production back in July.

Specs of the Z3 Tablet Compact are kinda obvious: 8,9" 2560 × 1600 WQXGA Display, SD801, 3GB RAM, 16GB ROM, water and dust resistant, IR-Blaster and maybe a GSM-module to make phone calls with BRH10.

Dunno I think 1080p is more likely

Since we're talking about premium 8"-9" tablets there should be a bump in display resolution. One of the top devices in that department is the Galaxy Tab Pro 8 which has a 2560 × 1600 WQXGA Display. So everything below that is not competitive.

that depends on the scaling they allow, I still prefer my Z ultra over the LG G3. It can fit a row of 6 icons rather than 5 like the G3. I only got to play with the display unit for G3, dunno if it got a setting to allow more icons to fit on screen. Sony is taking some right steps for the past to get the specs for their phones (from Z ultra to Z2) to be competitive, but Z3 and this new mini tablet seems to fall short. Its a brand new device from Sony that is new in this class, its not like they are stuck with a stock pile of left over old panels like with Z to use for new devices, I don't see why they can't go 2560X1440, which is slowly becoming new standard whether people like it or now.

Well both the tab S and tab pro have 1600 x 2560 resolution and the ipad mini at 1536 x 2048, so it would make some sense for the tab z3 compact to also have a higher resolution than fullHD. Xiaomi Mi Pad 7.9 has 1536 x 2048 pixels. HTC nexus 9 will also have a hi res screen, but then a lot the LGs, Asus and Acers, all sport at least fullHD, but nothing higher, so who knows which route Sony will go.

I wouldn't mind the higher res screen but not at the sacrifice of battery life. Knowing Sony, they will try to make it as thin as they can so the only place to save space is the battery, make it smaller, if they do, then I would prefer a normal fullHD screen.

I am the only one who just can't ignore the 16 Gb internal memory? It seems like such a waste for me. Make it 32 and 64 Gb models, dammit.

Hahaha

Xaomi products are such shameless Apple rip-offs....

Z3 Tablet compact sounds pretty good. Might get one if the price is right....
