The point of good camera in a phone is that it makes good point and shoot photos. You can't really set up much without shutter speed control now can You? It's still auto even if You go manual, because it automatically adjusts shutter speed, the thing that has major influence on how the photo will turn out. You have a slight control with ISO, but it's still lottery how long will the exposure time last.
Well you probably don't shoot much. I do and even if Scenes or modes are half automatic, there's a HUGE difference between results. So maybe open your eyes before you write such things.

What's more, Sony has SuperiorAuto that should be awesome as hell... Besides, it's much easier for reviewers to do such comparisons. All phones have auto which makes a fair test. Imagine You have Lumia 1020, iPhone 5s and Xperia Z1. With Nokia You can even adjust shutter speed, on iPhone there's no manual mode (lol), and Xperia Z1 gives you only slight control of the camera. Now tell me how would You compare image quality of these phones using manual settings? I'm listening.
Its's easy (maybe not for you). You shoot using different settings and compare best results.

Comparative charts are to compare image quality of each phone, it's pretty obvious nope? Even idiot can tell the difference between crap and good pic quality.
Bull...t. You can easily tell the diff between Sony Aspen and Z1, but on highend you need some knowledge,
observation skills etc. to really find out. And you have to PLAY around with the whole chart to see different parts zoomed.
99% will never do it.
What you write is silly.

Hi all and Sponse,
you'r the best man!
i guess the other handset has the same "problem" but i minor mode, as i haven't notice it even when i tried, but then again i have check another 3 xperia z1 and they all was the same as mine now.. so my device is "perfectly good".
it can be seen under direct source and a bit of an angle... so i'm cool with it.
yeah i guess that the dust was major problem, i could have lived with it, but then it has started moving toward the lens!!
and it was about 1.5 cm long!! so hell, yeah I have made the right decision...
other than that, the z1 is a beast... just wow
the thing that bugs me, that mine seems to have head on... i don't even have to look at it at an angle to see that white reflection lines..

After a week of heavy usage I can also only say that this device is awesome and the love for it is growing every day!
Im not the foto expert but for me it makes by far the best photos I´ve seen on a mobile. Compared it today to the IPhone 5 (yes,a little outdated) and it was far superior. Sound quality is great, gaming, browsing.
Very happy so far. If they only calibrate the display brightness a little better in the next update, it comes close to being the perfect smartphone! |

@cu015170, I agree with you mate, had same expectations myself. However, if you check results:
Good light: Z1, N3, G2
Low light (flash off): G2, Z1, N3
Low light (flash on):N3, Z1, G2
This is not what I expect from "camera-centric" device. And Z1 has better imaging attributes (sensor size, G lens, Bionz) than both competitors, at least on paper. So it should really wipe the floor with them. That's why I think there is still hope for further improvements via fw.

Unfortunately what you have on paper doesn't quite translate directly into practice, but yes... further software tweaks might be able squeeze more out of the sensor.
I don't think Sony are maximizing the available imaging hardware on the Z1. Same goes for the 1020.. |

I replied this to your earlier post also... I am repeating again... Turn auto brightness OFF and then see the brightness of your Z1... |

@hgautam,
I stand ashamed. Went there before, thought I had ticked auto brightness off, looked again now and I haven't!
Now it´s as bright as a star!

I just received my "Ebay dock" for my Z1. http://www.ebay.com.hk/itm/ws[....]dll?ViewItem&item=271284868493
It is exactly as the picture The cable is ultra short. The dock itself feels like the price i paid for it... cheap BUT does the trick. With the phone in the dock, it does not move easily due to the rubber feet under the dock. Going to see how fast it will charge the phone.
glad it works for you. but i opted to go for the official version let me know how yours charges though. I'm curious how well the chinese knock offs work

More on my comparison between the Z1 and the new Arrows NX.
I played arround today a little more and changed the luminosity. The Z1 gets better, but not as clear as the whitemagic panel. So internet is more pleasant with the Arrows. However, chaning the Z1 settings made videos look better than on the Arows NX. So I would now call the screen a draw.
I remarked that the arrows was able to play flash video and not the z1, but the shop lady told me they do not know yet how the final units will do. How is the international z1?
I am leaning a bit more towards the Z1.
@ Latios & Jewel, what is your take?
Screen: draw (Fujitsu wins for reading, Sony for viewing videos)
Firefox Browsing: Sony, but very close to draw
Camera: Fujitsu (Sony has more options, but I did not find a way to correct non-natural color saturation)
Built Quality & design: Sony
Single hand handling: Fujitsu
UI: Sony (it is close, but Fujitsu has a bad reputation as past models had many bugs)
Battery life: Fujitsu (whitemagic, it's fantastic)
Sound quality: Sony
Resistance to elements: Sony (thanks to dust resistance)
Fingerprint sensor: Fujitsu (more security and faster unlock)
That is 5 points vs 4 points in favor of Sony, but the difference is very small on many points.

didn't read much into the finger print scanner, but how safe is that thing. Always thought that some idiot rope your phone and realize it got a finger print scanner so they take your fingers along with the phone. |

I hear you, but what to do with a fingerprint ? (or more precisely, a few dots from fujitsu approximately matching my fingerprint as well as approximately other peoples fingerprint)
Besides, if I get the Z1 and someone really wants my complete fingerprint, not a few dots from fujitsu, they can alternatively borrow the Z1 it will have plenty on the back!
