It's unlikely. the one if the biggest advantages of the nexus devices is that they are vanilla android and they get the newest versions of android for months before anybody else. They get to enjoy a time period of exclusivity before anybody else can get it. So, if Nexus 5 releases with kitkat, then we won't see it until probably summer or fall 2014.

Besides, didn't someone (a sony official) already confirm that Z1 will be getting 4.3 as soon as possible?

Good question, I do hope Sony is fast with their updates, it took Samsung 5 months to release 4.1.2 for the S2. According to wiki, 4.1.2 was released in early october 2012 and my S2 was updated in February 22 of this year. so kind of fast but once Samsung bailed on the 4.2.2 release, well that was it for me.

4.3 was released this past july, so if the Z1 receives 4.3 before the year is done, then that will be a nice plus. Should be a nice update, since 4.3 now supports OpenGL ES 3.0, which should increase gaming gfx.

also a "Reworked camera UI, previously introduced on Google Play edition phones", could this be what is holding back the major updates to the camera on the z1?

well if their recent updates to the Z1 are any indication, it seems like they are working hard to push out software updates fast and addressing software issues as quickly as possible.

hopefully 4.3 will come before the end of the year. that woudl be great!

i just spent 45 mins playing a graphically intense game. phone definitely got hot, especially around the camera module area. but other than that, it ran like a champ. the reason i even tested as a friend said his shut down (not even reboot) after just 20 mins of playing the same game. strange. i told him to see if it happens a few more times and if so, to return/exchange it.

another person on youtube reported and showed an error happening with constant camera use. the error said something like 'unable to access camera because it is too hot'.. i gave that a try and couldn't reproduce the error either. could it be there are some units with poor heat dissipation? hmmm

Does anyone know what that slit in the middle of the top back side of the phone is for? on the original back protector, there was a crossed out screwdriver, but this doesn't answer it.

it's the 2nd microphone for noise cancellation. the screwdriver image was to tell you NOT to stick one in there..

Ah okay, I guessed it was either a hole to open the back plate or a waterproof vent to help dissipate the heat.

I hope there's no overheating issue on this phone like on the Z which also caused the glue to melt which made the backs come off and damage the phone and stop it from being waterproof.

Have seen a few posts on XDA today where people are complaining that the camera shuts down after it says the phone is overheating.

Hrmmmmm, possible delay in me getting my new Z1. It'll be available in mid-October in Canada, but my friends want to get me the Z1 as part of a combo birthday/xmas gift... and birthday isn't until the end of November. So unless they decide to get me an early birthday gift I might not get my Z1 for the next couple of months. That's the bad part. The good part is if ramu is correct, around then is when all Z1 displays are supposed to be IPS.

^good stuff overall.

the usual viewing angle issue, bezels (really?), and software bugs..

all in all, a positive review

For those wanting the OFFICIAL DK-31 magnetic charging dock, Sony Mobile UK has it in stock and on sale, NOT preorder.

I think that also depends on where you live, if it's hot or not, here in Ph there are times that temps are high. Just wash the Z1 with cold water and it should be cool enough to operate again

Anyway at least we know software is there to protect it from overheating.

That reminds me of last night at my mates place using his breathalyser it kept saying "HOT" for when I was blowing into it. apparently that means I had way too much alcohol to even give a reading haha.

on topic the photos after the update look really good. I took a macro photo on my lumia 920 and the Z1 looks like it has a lot better detailing

For those who ordered from Handtec - I've just confirmed via LIVECHAT on their website that the free Smartwatch 2 will be shipping to today and tomorrow to those who purchased the Z1.

Emails with shipping and tracking information will be sent out once it has been shipped.

The representative I chatted with could not confirm what shipping method would be used (e.g., economy first class or shipping method used for Z1).

Either way, it's ON THE WAY. I'm excited to get mine. Originally, I had planned to sell it, but after reading up on it more and looking at apps, I think i want to keep it. Simply for the fact that I can use it for a remote shutter for the Z1 and for when I'm driving. A quick glance at my watch is better than reaching for my phone (if it's not already set up for GPS). Also great for GPS/mapping when you're walking around a city without having to pull out your phone!
