I have my upgrade at the end of this year and I'm looking for a phone that gives a really good sound through a headset.
I'm not really interested in the camera performance. They all take decent snapshots nowadays.
My current phone is a Nokia Lumia 800. Crap for music, even with Senheisser in-ears.
I'm looking for something that can live up to Aino. I've had that one and together with mw100 it sounded perfect.
Is there anyone who can guide me from his/her experience?
Looking at spec - sheets they are all splendid but my ears tell a different story.

I would say the S4 with its Wolfson dac is a great choice. I have installed Poweramp and I am very happy with the sound quality. It has a 10 band eq to tweak the sound to your liking. I listen through Sennheiser, Akg, Sony and Bose

Also the walkman player on the latest Sony phones has great sound

Samsung Galaxy and iPhones have a excellent track record for great sound quality, if I'm not mistaken, you're not that keen on Android, yeah? I'd say give the iPhone5 32GB a go or even wait for the iPhone5S to be launched next month.

My father loves his music and is very heavy on the quality of it, and due to this has bought a whole lot of iPhone audiotaccessories for each iPhone he's had from the 3G right up to his 5, he's never been disappointed, and swears by Apple when it comes to music, audio accessories and audio quality, and I simply can't fault them either.

WP8 for music is okay ish but some budget handsets don't have any sort of EQ. I would say Sony handsets are excellent for sound as are HTC Beats Audio even without a Beats headset. Samsung are good too. For you though Hans I think an iPhone may suit you. Simple and easy to use and has great sound but not their own Apple headsets. The iPhone 5S is coming soon so iPhone 5 will drop in price on contracts but already has anyway. It would also sync well with your Mac at home as you said. For WP8 there really isn't any sort of decent music centric phone or any that does great sound IMO.

My Samsung S4 does indeed sound the part in the music department, I have compared it to my brother's Lumia 920 and it is definitely the better choice.

I also think you should try the iPhone, you will never go wrong with it in music playback terms.
It's not what you do or even how you do it but in what state of mind you do it: Dups! 2009

I have been looking further and am totaly confused now. I can't tell one Sony from another
I really like HTC One mini, only downside is 16 gig memory. One has 32 but is almost as expensive as iPhone5.
Maybe I'll buy HTC desire X to test android and Beats audio.
4g networks didn't make contracts any cheaper

Hans, you're going to upset many with that sort of Sony comment.

Why not try last years flagships? E.g Htc One X/One X+ or Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE, both have good audio, Beats in the Htcs of course and Wolfson powered audio in the Samsung.

There's no phone with real good sound.

You should buy a music only device.

I'll let you know how the sound quality of HTC One is in a few days.
I'm already excited. It's my first Android, after WP and many years of and it'll be quite a change.

I'm the owner of HTC One and I'm very satisfied. Good macro mode, excellent panoramic pic mode, brilliant video highlights which is able to mix your short videos (Zoe) and pictures into 30 sec video clip with music theme. Night mode is also nice. Normal pictures got average quality (when you want to zoom them) cos of low number of Mpix. HTC need to change camera's menu into a simpler one.

Sound from BoomSound is out of reach 4 other phones. Quality of the screen and colours are outstanding. Same with angles of view. BlinkFeed is nice, Zoe is great, quality and design is a reall masterpiece. 25GB from Dropbox is useful. U can use the device as a pilot for your TV as well. It truly deserve to be the best mobile device of 2013.

If it had better camera similar to pure view, it would be the best android device that have ever been produced. Hope that HTC One 2 will be a such device.
