EL GATO > Compact flash cards are bigger,..the DUO is very small...about half the size of an ordinary Memory stick.
CF/Microdrive was shown on Comdex with 4GB Thats a lot.
X-cards (the ones that e.g. Olympus use, are very small, so is the SD-cards)

dual mode means it can operate in two different wireless systems: GSM and WCDMA. In the US, TDMA and CDMA phones that work on analog are also dual mode because they do the digital and the analog. Tri-band and dual band refer to the frequencies that the phone works on. MOST COMMONLY for GSM dual band is 900,1800 and triband is 900,1800, 1900. (in the US dual band, dual mode has mostly referred to digital and analog, 850 and 1900). For GSM, THere are also dual bands that are 850 and 1900, as well as 900, 1900. There are even some Nokia tribands that are 850, 900, and 1900. Really regardless of what ever word is out there, you have to a) get a phone that works with your providers system (WCDMA, GSM, TDMA, CDMA, CDMA2000, analog, etc) as well as on the bandwidth that your provider uses in your market because providers may have different bandwidth in different markets. USA is predominatley 1900 for GSM. Some 850 is coming along now. Basically, this phone won't work in the US unless US providers us WCDMA 2100 mHz, which is what DoCoMo uses in Japan.... |

The J- phone " NOKIA 6650 " and others throws 3-ends as the terminal for 3g service which is offered from December 20th |
|
That was correct at the time or writing, i.e. 3rd of December 2002, because that was what J-phone officially announced.
The translation you quoted above is incorrect I am afraid.
I have read the original article in Japanese and it actually said:
'Nokia 6650 and Sanyo V-SA701 will become available LATER THAN 20th December 2002.'
It never said the handset would be available FROM December 20th.
THe only handset that became available on 20th December was the NEC V-N701.
Nokia 6650 has not been on sale in japan yet! Check out www.j-phone.com yourself, as it has an English page as well.

Nokia 6650 is still 'Coming soon'. It's a bit like SE P800 situation in the UK, i.e. it should have been on sale by now but not quite for some reasons. Further, I was in Tokyo in January and asked at a J-phone shop regarding availability of 6650. The answer was that they had no idea when they would start selling it. Rumour suggests it will be no earlier than April-May.

my first impression was the lack of the standardized operating software: yes, symbian series 6 !!
why didn't choose symbian ? the resolution of the screen perfectly matches the nokia 7650 !

why not ????
so, current developers can easily develop programs for z1010, as well as, one, who buy z1010 can also use current programs written already for series 60 platform !!

DUH...maybe because SE and Nokia are rivals???? DUH!!! That would be like Benz buying engines from BMW. Why on earth would you do something to give more profit to your competition??!?!?! How dumb would that be?
The reason why OTHER mobile phone companies are licensing Series 60 from Nokia is because they do not have the time to develop their own Symbian UI. This costs them as well, since Nokia gets a share of their sales. |

Yes, I read it... so? It says they're aligning developer tools. SE is still using UIQ and Nokia, their own Series 60. What of it??? |

I think the Z1010 is a bit too big for my taste. Just look at the image that Hobbes linked to a few posts ago, where you can see a guy holding it. It is _not_ the size of a Panasonic GD87, or Samsung T100, but considerably bigger.
I don't think it is too big for the market (lots of people do not care that much, the success of P800 and 7650 is a proof of that), but I would personally rather like a phone that is the size of the T68i.
Face it --- all the 3G phones will be huge in the beginning...
